One of Walt Disney World’s better summer hotel perks has officially disappeared, and families visiting over the next several months will have to decide whether they’re willing to pay for something that was recently included for free.
Throughout the Cool KIDS’ Summer promotion, eligible guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels received complimentary admission to a Disney water park on their check-in day.
That benefit officially ended September 9.
Disney has confirmed that the perk will return next summer, so this isn’t necessarily a permanent goodbye. However, anyone traveling this fall, winter, or spring shouldn’t expect free water park admission simply because they’re staying at a Disney Resort.
And when you look at what admission costs, that’s a pretty significant difference.
Disney’s Free Water Park Day Is Over
The summer benefit made arrival days much easier to plan.
Instead of buying a full theme park ticket for a partial day, eligible Resort guests could head to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon without paying another admission charge.
For families arriving early in Orlando, that was a great option.
You could drop off your luggage, change into a swimsuit, and enjoy several hours at a Disney water park before officially beginning your theme park schedule the following morning.
It was also a low-risk way to try Disney’s water parks.
If your family spent three hours there and decided it wasn’t for you, no big deal. You hadn’t purchased separate admission.
That’s no longer the case.
Current water park tickets cost $78.81 after tax for adults and $72.42 after tax for children.
For a family of four, paying for a water park can suddenly add more than $300 to the vacation budget.
Is a Water Park Still Worth the Money?
There are certainly reasons to consider visiting.
Fall marks the beginning of a slower period for Disney’s water parks as temperatures cool and vacationers devote more time to the four traditional theme parks.
That could result in smaller crowds, shorter attraction waits, and an easier time finding somewhere to relax.
A water park can also provide a much-needed change of pace.
After several days of walking around Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, spending some time floating through a lazy river sounds pretty good.
However, there’s another complication right now.
Typhoon Lagoon is currently closed for routine maintenance, meaning Blizzard Beach is the available Disney water park.
Having only one park operating could funnel more guests into Blizzard Beach, potentially reducing some of the off-season crowd advantage.
Frequent Visitors Have Another Option
Guests planning multiple water park visits may want to look beyond a regular single-day ticket.
Disney currently offers a water park season pass for $89 plus tax for guests ages 10 and older and $83 plus tax for children ages three through nine.
The pass remains valid through May 15, 2027, with blockout dates from February 19-21 and March 20-28.
Considering a regular adult ticket is already approaching $80 after tax, the season pass becomes much more appealing if you’re planning two visits.
For Florida residents, Annual Passholders, or families with multiple Disney trips planned, that could be the better option.
The Freebie Will Eventually Return
The important thing for guests to understand is that Disney hasn’t eliminated the water park benefit forever.
It is scheduled to return next summer.
But that doesn’t help families arriving over the next several months.
For now, Disney Resort guests have lost a benefit that could have saved a family hundreds of dollars.
Whether Blizzard Beach is still worth paying for depends largely on how much your family enjoys water parks and how much room remains in your vacation budget.
The biggest takeaway is simple: don’t arrive at your Disney Resort expecting the complimentary water park admission offered earlier this year.
That summer perk is officially over, and until it returns, another Disney experience is back behind a separate admission price.
