10 Best Bites on Walt Disney World Property

Fish & Chips - Yorkshire County Fish Shop

Walt Disney World is full of delicious food, whether it is sweet or savory, snacks or meals.  You could make an entire vacation a culinary experience in the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs.  I have experienced so many dishes that I just can’t get enough of . . . here are 10 of the best bites at Walt Disney World:

10. Bread Service at Sanaa

Yes, I make dining reservations at Sanaa specifically for the bread service.  I could do just the bread service and dessert here and be a very happy camper.  The bread itself consists of a few differently flavored Naan breads, along with Paratha and Kulcha (all flatbreads, and all delicious by themselves).  But then you are presented with a wooden tray containing cups of 9 Indian style sauces to enhance your breads.  They range from a mild Cucumber Raita up to a spicy Red Chile Sambal with lots of flavor profiles in between.  I am not a spicy food person, but I loved the Cucumber Raita, Mango Chutney, Tamarind Chutney, and Tomato Date Jam . . . so even if you don’t like hot spice you will enjoy this appetizer.

9. Butcher Board at The Polite Pig

Disney Springs has so many amazing eateries, and The Polite Pig is among my favorites.  Everything I’ve had there is amazing (and I live in barbecue country).  My favorite bite here is way more than just a bite, it is the Butcher Board that serves (at least) 2 people.  This gives you a great sampling of the smoked meats here with Pork, Chicken, Brisket and Sausage, you also get the slaw, house pickles, cornbread and your choice of 2 sides (I recommend the corn and cauliflower).  Bring your appetite, you will love sampling all of these options from The Polite Pig.

8. Churros at the Nomad Lounge

The Nomad Lounge (located in Animal Kingdom on the bridge to Pandora, beside Tiffin’s) is a great place to get away from the hectic atmosphere of the park and take a little break.  There is comfortable seating inside and out (I recommend outside if the weather is pleasant), and signature drinks on the menu are excellent.  There are many great small plates here, but my favorite may be the dessert:  Churros.  These are not your average Walt Disney World churros, they are fresh and perfectly prepared.  Once you bite into the appropriately crunchy outside, the inside will melt in your mouth.  They are served with two sauces for dipping:  Vanilla Crema and Chili=Strawberry.  Both are the perfect flavor complements.

7. Croissant Jambon Fromage at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie

The Ham & Cheese Croissant at Les Halles in Epcot’s France is probably the best kept secret at Walt Disney World.  This sandwich is an amazing value, and it is absolutely delicious.  Freshly prepared on a croissant with cheese and Bechamel . . . it is just right for a lunch stop in World Showcase (and it is my go-to).  Of course, there are plenty of sweet treats to add to your croissant to make it a meal (my personal favorite is the Strawberry Tart.

6. Seasonal Egg Roll at the Magic Kingdom

Recently, I took the Taste of Magic Kingdom Tour where we had the chance to talk with the Chef at Skipper Canteen who is also over most of the food service in Adventureland about developing the seasonal egg roll offerings.  They are all unique takes on an egg roll with unexpected, non-traditional ingredients like Buffalo Chicken, or Philly Cheesesteak.  When freshly prepared these unusual offerings make for a great snack to eat on the go between attractions.

5. Bread Service at the Ale & Compass Restaurant

Another secret at Walt Disney World is the excellent “casual” restaurants at the resorts.  The Ale & Compass Restaurant at the Yacht Club is a great example of delicious food in a relaxed setting.  Here, again, I am highlighting the bread service (I may have a thing for carbs).  This service is a presentation of Parker House Rolls (freshly prepared, served hot and buttery) accompanied by three spreads:  Pub Cheese, Bacon Jam, and Citrus Butter.  All three were very good, but the Pub Cheese was out of this world.  I highly recommend a dinner here, and make sure you start with this appetizer.

4. Fish & Chips at Yorkshire County Fish Shop

No visit to Epcot would be complete for my family without a trip around the World Showcase eating at various countries, and my husband’s favorite stop is the United Kingdom for some freshly fried fish and chips.  The Yorkshires County Fish Shop is the quick service walk up counter that serves up this dish, and they really are fantastic.  Lightly breaded and fried for the perfect crisp on the outside, tender and moist fish on the inside.  And the chips are the perfect potato accompaniment.

3. Soft Pretzel in Germany

While Soft Pretzels can be found all over Walt Disney World with various things in them, on them, or to dip them in, my personal favorite and choice for best bite are the ones found in Germany in Epcot’s World Showcase.  Maybe it is because they feel more authentic, but they are so good here.  A perfectly flavored combination of a baked outside and chewy inside.  You can find these pretzels at Sommerfest (located just inside the back of the pavilion near the check in for the table service Biergarten).  Keep in mind these are Jumbo pretzels—they are huge & shareable (perfect for snacking around the world with friends or family).

2. Baked Macaroni & Cheese at the Animal Kingdom

I love Macaroni and Cheese when it is done well, and especially when it is baked.  At the Animal Kingdom you have a couple of place to find this great dish (and they are very close to each other).  When it is open the 8 Spoon Café is my top choice—it is located on the walkway from Discovery Island to Asia in a kiosk on the right.  They offer a plain baked Macaroni and Cheese, or you can order it with Pulled Pork topping, or Shrimp and Sweet Chili Sauce topping.  I love it plain or with the pulled pork—and the pricing here is better than your other option, but the hours it is open are limited.  The other choice is Flame Tree Barbecue where you can get more of a meal with the baked mac & cheese topped with pulled pork, onion rings, and coleslaw (and you can ask for it “deconstructed” so you can control the amounts of each if you like).

1. Artisanal Cheese and Charcuterie Board at the Brown Derby Lounge

Just about anywhere I go I love to sample a cheese board, and the offering at the Brown Derby Lounge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one of the best around.  I love stopping at the Brown Derby Lounge because reservations are not required, the outdoor seating is lovely & perfect for people watching, and the small plates offered are just the right amount and so delicious.  The Artisanal Cheese and Charcuterie board here is big enough for sharing and features a nice variety of cheeses and well as meats, and is served with house made pickles and French bread.
