One of the best parts of visiting Walt Disney World Resort is all the fun rides and attractions that you can go on. You can fly the Millennium Falcon on Smuggler’s Run, travel into the twilight zone on Tower of Terror, travel through a village that is being plundered by pirates, and even take a ride in a doom buggy through a haunted mansion. There are so many chills and thrills that await you at Walt Disney World, you may not think of a theme park escalator as a memorable experience — but for one family, it was just that.
Helina Wuestewald was visiting EPCOT with her family when something unbelievable happened. Her young son’s shoe got caught at the very top of an escalator. Then, the other shoe got stuck as well. Luckily, Helina’s family is full of quick thinkers, and they grabbed the young boy before any damage was done to his feet. The escalator started to shred his shoes before it came to a complete stop.
You can watch the crazy incident, which Helina shared on TikTok, below.
All I know is he was next to me and lost balance almost at the end of the escelstor then he yelled how shoe was stuck. Then his other got stuck. We were able to slide his feet out fast. The escelstor got stuck and stopped moving. He’s ok and has all toes but ya fun day at Epcot #escalators #epcot #disneyworld #wdw #cosmicrewind #summervacation #firstdayofsummer #fyp #ripcrocs #favoriteshoes

As you can see in the video, the accident happened inside The Land pavilion, and a safety sign was put up so other Guests wouldn’t risk injury. Thankfully, a Disney World Cast Member helped the family, so the young Guest wouldn’t be without shoes all day. The Cast Member gave the family a voucher, so the Guest could go into a store and purchase a new pair of shoes.
A lot of viewers commented that it is unsafe to ride an escalator while wearing crocs, but Helina said that there was no sign indicating that her son could not wear his crocs on the escalator. Others also commented that Disney sells crocs, so it would be ironic to sell something that Guests technically shouldn’t be wearing at certain places in the theme parks.
Fortunately, Helina’s son was uninjured, and the family was able to have a great day at The Most Magical Place on Earth.
