Worth The Wait: 10 New Experiences Coming To Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is currently undergoing some major changes as it prepares to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in the year 2021. While these changes have resulted in the loss of some favorite attractions and experiences, they are also making way for brand new experiences that guests are sure to absolutely love. Each Disney Park is receiving changes and upgrades as the anniversary approaches, and the new experiences being created include everything from nighttime entertainment to thrill rides, family fun, and more. With so many wonderful changes coming to Walt Disney World, the wait will be well worth it!

 

1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has recently seen the addition of Galaxy’s Edge where guests can enter into the Black Spire Outpost and join the First Order or the Resistance. Coming in December 2019, the immersive land will see the addition of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance which will begin with guests on board a transport that suddenly is captured by a Star Destroyer. Using advanced technology, guests will find themselves amongst favorite characters and in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order.

2. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also feature a brand new attraction opening in the spring of 2020 in the former space of the Great Movie Ride. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will also use brand new technology to allow guests to physically step into the cartoon world of their favorite characters and set off on an unforgettable adventure. With Goofy conducting, guests are sure to love this new experience filled with plenty of laughs and adventure.

3. TRON

The Magic Kingdom is also set to enjoy a brand new attraction in Tomorrowland that is planned to open just in time for the fiftieth anniversary. TRON is based on the popular TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and will bring guests on a thrilling race through the digital world made famous in the film. Featuring futuristic lightcycles for guests to ride on, this high speed attraction is sure to bring big crowds and big thrills when it opens!

4. Future World

One of the areas changing the most leading up to the fiftieth anniversary is Epcot, and Future World in particular. The area has already began to see much change in recent months and over the next few years will be home to brand new experiences and attractions. In addition to these experiences, Future World will also receive an updated look with new pathways, fountains, a wonderful statue of Walt Disney, and a tiered pavilion offering a new festival center as well as beautiful views from the green spaced-rooftop.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

The largest addition coming to Epcot’s Future World in upcoming years will be the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Housed in the old Universe of Energy Pavilion, this attraction will be a high speed roller coaster that uses new technology to rotate guests at times so that they can change direction while rocketing along. While many details are still unknown for the attraction itself, guests do know that they will be able to enjoy a high speed launch backwards!

6. Journey of Water

The pathway leading from the central area of Future World to The Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavilion will also be undergoing a transformation in the upcoming years. This path will be brought to life with the Journey of Water experience that will roughly be based on the character Moana. While there are still few details available for this experience as well, it is known that guests will be able to directly interact with water in inventive ways.

7. Space 220

Mission: SPACE is a popular attraction in Epcot’s Future World that allows guests to either enjoy a serene orbit of the Earth or a thrilling adventure to Mars, depending on the Green or Orange Team. This pavilion will also be expanding in winter 2019 with the addition of Space 220, a brand new restaurant that will feature larger than life windows and technology to make diners feel as though they are enjoying their meals in the beauty of space. Offering incredible views and what is sure to be a delicious menu, Space 220 is sure to be a popular dining addition to Epcot!

8. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

In addition to Future World, World Showcase in Epcot will also be seeing some major changes leading up to the fiftieth anniversary celebration in 2021. The France Pavilion will see the addition of the highly anticipated Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure where guests will board trackless cars shaped like mice and set off on an adventure with Remy. Featuring a combination of larger than life props and screens, this new experience was inspired by Ratatouille: L’Adventure Totalement Toquee de Remy in Disneyland Paris and is sure to be just as popular in Epcot.

9. Mary Poppins

The UK Pavilion in World Showcase will also be experiencing some changes in the upcoming years with the addition of another brand new attraction. It was announced at the D23 Expo in August 2019 that the pavilion will be getting a brand new Mary Poppins attraction that will allow guests to walk down Cherry Tree Lane and enter into the Banks’ home for an unforgettable experience. While no other details have been released at this time, this highly anticipated attraction is certainly going to be worth the wait!

Epcot’s United Kingdom pavilion will welcome the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins. Guests will step in time down Cherry Tree Lane past Admiral Boom’s house, then enter Number 17, home of the Banks family, where their adventure will begin. (Disney)

10. HarmonioUS

2019 sadly saw the final farewell of the beloved Illuminations: Reflections of Earth in Epcot and the introduction of Epcot Forever, a new nighttime show featuring the music of Epcot as well as fireworks, kites, and more. While Epcot Forever is certainly enjoyable, it is actually a temporary experience as the park gears up to debut HarmonioUS in 2020 which will celebrate how Disney music can inspire and unite people from all over the world. The new nighttime show will feature brand new technology including floats, LED panels, fireworks, and more making it much anticipated!
