Universal Studios Orlando to Close Ahead of (What Will Be) Hurricane Nicole

Universal Studios Orlando Resort announced Wednesday that its parks will close early Wednesday night, November 9, in anticipation of Subtropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to become a hurricane and make landfall as a Category 1 tropical cyclone.

Universal posted a similar message on its website. It reads as follows:

Universal Orlando Resort has made the following operational decisions due to Tropical Storm Nicole:

  • Due to Tropical Storm Nicole, Universal’s Volcano Bay is currently closed, and Universal Orlando Resort, including CityWalk, will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. Our hotels will remain operational as they focus on taking care of our guests.
  • We anticipate a phased and delayed reopening on Thursday, Nov. 10, and will update once we assess conditions. Please check back for updates.

The Resort says it is experiencing a high number of calls from guests requesting assistance with their affected travel plans.

The Universal Orlando Resort Guest Contact Center is currently experiencing higher-than-expected wait times and is currently assisting guests whose travel is directly affected by the approaching storm. If your travel dates are after November 13, we would appreciate it if you would call us back at a later date.

Our hotels will remain operational as they focus on taking care of our guests. If you have an existing reservation for arrival through Friday that you would like to cancel or modify, please continue to hold.

Universal’s Severe Weather Policy states that “unfortunately, we can’t make guarantees about the weather, but your travel plans can still be stress-free.”

The website further states that “in the event that a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center or a state of emergency is declared for the Orlando area or in your place of residence, within seven days of your arrival, you can contact our team in advance to reschedule or cancel your Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations Package, hotel room only accommodations and Universal Orlando theme park tickets booked directly with Universal Orlando, without any cancellation or change fees imposed. If you have purchased airline tickets as part of your Universal Parks and Resorts Vacations package, you may still be subject to cancellation and change fees assessed by those airlines.”
