Universal Issues Confusing Update on Highly Anticipated Attraction

Universal Studios Hollywood fans have undergone quite the roller coaster today.

(Pun intended.)

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift has been one of the resort’s most closely watched projects for months. Construction is largely complete, testing has ramped up, and guests have regularly spotted riders on the coaster during operating hours.

The attraction marks a significant addition for Universal Studios Hollywood. Fast & Furious was previously represented by Fast & Furious – Supercharged on the Studio Tour, but Hollywood Drift is a much larger investment built around the franchise.

The new coaster will be Universal Studios Hollywood’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster. Universal has previously confirmed that it will reach speeds of up to 72 mph and feature rotating ride vehicles designed to simulate drifting.

Universal Removes Date After Briefly Posting It Online

Earlier on Friday, Universal Studios Hollywood appeared to reveal the attraction’s opening date.

The official Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift webpage was updated to state that the coaster would open on June 26, 2026. The date was quickly shared across social media by theme park fans and industry watchers.

Not long afterward, the date disappeared from Universal’s website. The company later issued a statement on X addressing the situation.

“An opening date was incorrectly posted on the Universal Studios Hollywood website and we apologize for the confusion,” Universal wrote. “Stay tuned for more to come!”

Universal has not announced a replacement date. The resort continues to say only that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will open in summer 2026.

The brief appearance of June 26 has left fans unsure whether the date was published early or was simply incorrect.

Either way, the update has added another layer of uncertainty to a project that appears to be nearing completion.

Orlando Project Continues Taking Shape

Questions also remain about the timeline for Universal Studios Florida’s own Fast & Furious coaster.

Universal confirmed plans for the Orlando attraction in January. Construction is now underway following the closure of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which is being replaced by the new ride (although many fans originally theorized aĀ Ghostbusters attraction would take its place).

The Florida coaster will not be identical to Hollywood Drift, though it will feature similar rotating ride vehicles capable of spinning 360 degrees during the experience.

Recent construction updates via @InsideUniversal have shown new sections of track installed near the attraction’s signature vertical spike. The coaster will eventually feature a 170-foot-tall spike positioned near Universal CityWalk.

In Hollywood, attention remains focused on the California version’s debut.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will feature four ride vehicles themed to cars from the film series, including Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger, Han’s Mazda RX-7, Brian O’Conner’s Nissan Skyline GT-R and Brian’s orange Toyota Supra.
