Universal Orlando faces many weather-related challenges from the scorching sun of Florida summers to the occasional hurricanes sweeping through the region. These elements take their toll on the resort’s attractions, leading to fading paint, structural deterioration, and mechanical malfunctions. The effects of weathering are particularly pronounced on outdoor attractions, such as roller coasters and themed environments, which are constantly exposed to the elements.

One of the most visible signs of weathering is the fading of paint and signage. The vibrant hues that adorn the facades of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic Park attractions gradually lose their luster under the relentless Florida sun. Similarly, attractions like The Incredible Hulk Coaster is now showing years of weathering.

Extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and thunderstorms, pose a significant threat to the structural integrity of attractions. High winds can damage roofs, facades, and ride components, while heavy rainfall can lead to flooding and water damage.

When the last hurricane hit, Universal Orlando Resort guests saw images of The Incredible Hulk Coaster underwater due to the amount of rain.

While this attraction reopened shortly after the cleanup of the hurricane, it is now showing weather. Bioreconstruct tweeted a photo on X (formally known as Twitter) of the support beams with what looks like rust due to years of splashing.

Universal Orlando closes attractions during the year due to inspections, routine maintenance, and strategic upgrades to mitigate the effects of weathering. This proactive approach allows maintenance teams to address problems promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring guest safety.

It should be clear that this weathering does not affect the safety or structure of The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

Of course, this isn’t the only coaster across the U.S. that has seen some issues. One theme park is Carowinds. This theme park is located in North Carolina, and one of their most popular attractions, Fury 325, was spotted with a crack in one of its structural beams. This attraction was reported to have seven cracks.

While Universal Orlando attractions may show wear and tear over the years, Universal continues to update and build new attractions. Universal Orlando is in the process of building a third theme park called Epic Universe, which will feature all new lands.

Guests heading to Universal Studios Florida soon will be able to experience Universal’s new Dreamworks Land, which will feature offerings inspired by Trolls, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda franchises.
