Universal Orlando Takes Drastic Action With Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Amid Issues
One of Universal Orlando Resort’s biggest attractions has suffered another setback.
Universal Islands of Adventure is home to some of Florida’s most popular roller coasters, including Jurassic World VelociCoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
The latter opened in June 2019 as part of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, replacing the former Dragon Challenge roller coasters. Unlike its predecessor, Hagrid’s takes guests on a story-driven adventure through the Forbidden Forest, encountering magical creatures from the Harry Potter franchise.

Guests can ride either Hagrid’s motorbike or its sidecar as they speed through a nearly mile-long track. The attraction features seven launches, a backward section, and a vertical drop, making it one of Universal Orlando’s most ambitious roller coasters.
However, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has also developed a reputation for lengthy queues and occasional operational issues. Despite opening seven years ago, the coaster regularly attracts waits exceeding two hours.
Now, another unexpected interruption has left Universal Orlando guests disappointed.
Universal Orlando Blocks Access to Popular Harry Potter Ride
Guests arriving at Islands of Adventure on Friday, October 9, were unable to experience Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure when the theme park opened.
Instead of welcoming riders as usual, Universal kept the attraction closed and added a notice outside its entrance explaining that operations would be delayed.

Universal Orlando has not publicly confirmed what caused the interruption. While Hagrid’s has previously experienced technical problems, there is no evidence that Friday’s closure was caused by a specific mechanical issue.
The good news for guests was that the closure did not last all day. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure eventually reopened, although demand quickly pushed its posted wait time to approximately 120 minutes.
That is hardly unusual for the attraction. According to Queue Times, Hagrid’s averaged a 110-minute wait throughout 2025, making it one of the most time-consuming experiences at Islands of Adventure.
The attraction’s popularity has presented an ongoing challenge for Universal, which has repeatedly adjusted how guests access the roller coaster.

When Hagrid’s opened in 2019, it did not offer Universal Express, the paid queue-skipping service available at many other Universal Orlando attractions.
Universal eventually introduced Express access in May 2025, allowing guests who purchased the service to bypass the regular standby line.
However, the change proved controversial. Standby guests complained about lengthy waits, with some blaming the Express queue for making an already busy attraction even more difficult to experience.
Universal subsequently reversed its decision, removing Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure from the Express lineup effective July 1, 2026.
The company said the adjustment was intended “to improve the flow of the experience for all of our Guests.”
Although the move eliminated Express access, it did not eliminate the attraction’s lengthy standby queues, as Friday’s reopening demonstrated.
Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure Has a History of Delays
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has experienced operational challenges since its debut, including delayed openings and temporary shutdowns.

When the attraction first welcomed guests in June 2019, demand was so high that queues reportedly reached 10 hours. Universal also faced technical difficulties during its opening months, with the coaster occasionally closing early for maintenance.
The ride’s complex design helps explain why its operations differ from those of simpler attractions. Its track measures 5,053 feet, with multiple launches, a backward drop, and a free-fall section that plunges guests nearly 17 feet.
Its elaborate theming also includes more than 1,200 trees, a life-size animatronic Hagrid, and creatures including Fluffy, Cornish pixies, and Blast-Ended Skrewts.
There are still plenty of alternatives for guests visiting Hogsmeade when Hagrid’s is unavailable. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey takes riders through Hogwarts Castle, while Flight of the Hippogriff offers a gentler roller coaster experience.

The land is also home to the Three Broomsticks, Hog’s Head, Honeydukes, and Ollivanders, as well as live entertainment from the Frog Choir and Triwizard Spirit Rally.
Visitors with park-to-park tickets can take the Hogwarts Express to Universal Studios Florida, where Diagon Alley features Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
Meanwhile, Universal Epic Universe has expanded the resort’s Wizarding World with its Ministry of Magic land, home to Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry – and yet another attraction may be on the way.
As for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, there is currently no indication that the October 9 interruption will lead to a longer closure. The attraction remains part of Universal Orlando’s regular ride lineup.
