Universal Quietly Restores Express to Hagrid’s Coaster for Select Guests

Long waits have become almost part of the experience when visiting Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

The popular Islands of Adventure coaster continues to pull large crowds years after its debut, so any opportunity to bypass part of that standby line can be a big deal. Universal removed regular Express access from Hagrid’s in July, but that didn’t completely close the door on the attraction’s Express queue.

Some guests can still get inside. They just need a little luck.

Hagrid’s Continues to Pack in Guests

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure opened at Islands of Adventure in 2019 and quickly established itself as one of Universal Orlando Resort’s biggest attractions.

Guests visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade can climb aboard either Hagrid’s motorbike or its sidecar before heading into the Forbidden Forest.

The coaster combines storytelling with plenty of thrills. Multiple launches, indoor and outdoor sections, unexpected movements, magical creatures, and several surprises help separate Hagrid’s from a traditional roller coaster.

That experience has kept demand high, even years after the attraction opened. Of course, keeping such a popular coaster moving efficiently can present challenges.

Express became part of that conversation this year.

Universal Pulled Regular Express Access

Hagrid’s previously accepted Universal Express, allowing eligible guests to use a separate queue rather than waiting exclusively through standby.

Universal ended that arrangement on July 1, 2026.

The company removed Hagrid’s from regular Express to improve the attraction’s queue flow. Express reportedly contributed to longer standby wait times and increased congestion at an attraction that already draws substantial crowds.

After the change, buying Universal Express no longer meant guests could automatically use it at Hagrid’s.

That remains true today. However, there is an important exception.

Some Guests Can Still Use Hagrid’s Express Queue

Universal has not placed Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure back on its standard Express lineup.

Instead, select guests can receive single-use Express passes from Universal Team Members, allowing them to enter Hagrid’s through the Express queue.

That makes this a very different type of Express access.

Guests cannot simply purchase Universal Express and expect Hagrid’s to be included. These passes appear to function more like special surprises that Team Members can give to individual visitors.

So while the full Express program hasn’t returned to Hagrid’s, limited Express access is still available for the guests who receive one of these passes, which can make a huge difference.

One couple recently experienced exactly that.

A Surprise After Riding the Hogwarts Express

A Reddit user described receiving two Hagrid’s Express passes after traveling from Universal Studios Florida to Islands of Adventure.

The guest wrote:

“we got off the hogwarts express from Universal Studios to Islands of Adventure, and my gf and I were just trying to make the Harry Potter and the forbidden journey. But right when we got off an employee came up to us and gave us two tickets for an express pass for Hagrid’s Motor Bike adventure! We quickly rushed over and they took us on the express pass line and we got on the ride in less than 20 minutes.”

The guest later summed up the unexpected experience simply: “Definitely felt like a magical moment.”

Universal Team Members occasionally surprise visitors in ways that can improve their day. This particular surprise potentially saved the couple from spending a significant amount of time waiting in standby.

However, visitors shouldn’t count on receiving one. These passes appear to be limited and distributed at the team members’ discretion rather than something guests can purchase or request.

Could Hagrid’s Get Regular Express Again?

Hagrid’s current popularity could make a full Express return difficult, but that doesn’t mean the situation will stay this way forever.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster also operated for years without Express before Universal eventually added it. If Hagrid’s wait times eventually fall closer to VelociCoaster’s levels, Universal could potentially reconsider its approach.

Another possibility would involve more controlled access.

Universal could theoretically sell a single-attraction Express option with an assigned return time. Such a system could operate somewhat like Disney World’s Lightning Lane approach, allowing Universal to control how many Express guests arrive during specific windows.

Universal hasn’t announced plans to do that, so it remains only a possibility.

Hagrid’s Express Comes With a Big Catch

For now, regular Universal Express remains unavailable at Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

Yet the Express entrance isn’t completely off limits.

Select guests can still receive single-use passes that bypass the Hagrid’s Express queue, creating an unusual exception to the July change.

Most visitors will still need to use the standby. But for a lucky few, a Universal team member could turn a long Hagrid’s wait into a much shorter one.
