Universal Orlando Restricts Access to Hagrid’s Coaster Following “Sudden Operational Shift”

Universal Orlando Resort guests are growing increasingly frustrated with one of the park’s biggest attractions. Over the past several months, fans have watched Universal make multiple operational changes surrounding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and many believe the situation is only getting worse.

The latest complaints focus on nighttime access.

Guests who intentionally save Hagrid’s for the end of the night are reportedly finding themselves blocked from entering the queue well before the park officially closes. For many visitors, that strategy was one of the best ways to experience the attraction without spending hours waiting earlier in the day.

Now, many fans feel like that option is disappearing.

Why Hagrid’s Became Such a Massive Hit

Since opening in 2019, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has become one of the most popular rides anywhere in Florida. The attraction pulls in huge crowds almost every day, and many Universal Orlando fans consider it the signature experience at Islands of Adventure.

Part of the ride’s popularity comes from how different it feels compared to traditional roller coasters.

The attraction combines launches, animatronics, detailed scenery, and storytelling while remaining family-friendly. Riders board either Hagrid’s motorbike or sidecar before racing through the Forbidden Forest during a fast-moving adventure inspired by the Harry Potter franchise.

Even guests who are not diehard Harry Potter fans often leave impressed.

Night rides have also developed a strong following over the years. Once darkness falls over Islands of Adventure, the coaster feels much more intense. Many guests purposely wait until the final hour of the night to ride it.

Unfortunately, that strategy has recently become far more difficult.

Universal Removes Express Access

Universal Orlando Resort recently confirmed another major change involving Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Beginning July 1, 2026, the attraction will no longer offer Express Pass access.

The timing caught guests off guard, as the change arrived just before the busy Fourth of July crowds hit Orlando.

For about a year, many visitors used Express access to reduce their wait times during crowded vacation periods. Hagrid’s regularly posts triple-digit waits, especially during holidays and school breaks, so many guests appreciated having another option available.

Not everyone supported Express access on the attraction, however. Some longtime fans believed it only made standby waits worse. Others, especially guests staying at premier Universal hotels, viewed it as one of the biggest perks included with their vacations.

Either way, that option soon disappears completely.

And according to recent guest reports, that may not be the only issue visitors are now facing.

Guests Report Being Turned Away Before Closing

More visitors have recently started sharing frustrations about Hagrid’s queue closing earlier than expected.

According to guest experiences, Team Members have occasionally stopped allowing guests to enter the attraction line up to an hour before Islands of Adventure officially closes. If wait times grow too long late at night, additional riders may no longer be allowed into the queue.

That leaves some guests confused because the park itself technically remains open.

Many visitors intentionally avoid riding Hagrid’s during the hottest parts of the afternoon. Instead, they spend the evening enjoying other attractions before heading to Hogsmeade later in the night.

Others simply want the experience of riding through the Forbidden Forest after dark.

Unfortunately, some guests are now arriving near closing time only to discover that access to the attraction has already been blocked off.

A Growing Frustration for Universal Fans

For many guests, the frustration goes beyond long wait times.

Hagrid’s remains one of Universal Orlando Resort’s most popular attractions, and fans feel like the ride is becoming harder to experience, despite already requiring major planning.

Between the upcoming removal of Express access and reports of early queue closures, many visitors believe riding Hagrid’s now depends heavily on timing and luck.

And for guests hoping to end their night with one final ride through the Forbidden Forest, that experience may no longer be guaranteed.
