Universal Agreed Upon As “Better Orlando Vacation Destination,” What’s Disney’s Move?

With Epic Universe’s announcement, fans are acknowledging that Universal might just be the better Orlando vacation spot. But what can Disney do to close the gap?

Universal Orlando Resort has upped the ante. The Orlando vacation destination has made waves in the recent past with the announcement of its upcoming theme park. Since many now feel that Universal Orlando Resort has officially dethroned the Walt Disney World Resort as the King of Orlando vacation destinations, some fans brainstormed how Disney’s Orlando theme park could recover its crown.

Suggestions Galore Pour in for Disney

Recently, a fan wrote on Reddit“What can Disney do to keep Universal from overthrowing it as the best set of Orlando theme parks?”

The answer seemed quite simple as far as many fans were concerned. Many wanted to see Disney work on tangible expansions in the parks rather than give more blue-sky promises (we’re looking at you, Josh D’Amaro).

One explained, “Short-term? Announce concrete plans on how it’s going to expand the four existing gates in Orlando. No more blue sky. Give details, name stuff. Long-term? Expand those four gates to drive up value for a day spent in the parks while reducing overall park congestion.”

One fan called out this issue from the perspective of the amount of time each company takes to build new attractions.

They wrote,

They need to build things quicker. Disney has the land and the capital to do it, but they are too comfortable with keeping temporary walls up for years and years.

Universal is building Epic Universe in the same amount of time that it took Disney to build Tron, roughly 5 years or so. But Disney realistically probably doesn’t care what Universal is doing. They know that they have their fans that don’t vacation anywhere else besides Disney World and they also are still the busiest amusement chain in the world, even without winning awards for being the best theme parks and very rarely winning awards for attractions.

While Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom have held down the fort for a while, with Epic Universe joining Universal Studios Florida’s ranks, the Central Florida Universal Park is likely to begin overshadowing the Disney Park.

The good news is Disney seems to be aware of its own lag and has insinuated a fifth theme park is in the works. Along with this, we are certainly looking forward to many of the blue-sky ideas from the last D23.
