The Walt Disney Company gets a lot of credit for creating magic for kids from all over the world, but sometimes, it’s a child’s parent that really goes the extra mile to ensure that Disney magic continues at home and beyond the television screen. Every parent wants their child to feel included and seen, especially in entertainment near their heart. However, Disney has faced wide criticism for its most recent attempts to put diversity in their projects.
This is how a New York City mom named Wendy Wuu went out of her way to get The Walt Disney Company’s entertainment to cater to her and her son’s experience. And now, Toy Story‘s Sheriff Woody has his own hearing aid. Here’s how everything went down.
The Story of How Woody Became an Upgraded Toy
In her New York City home, Wendy Wuu lives with her adorable five-year-old son named Deej. Deej is deaf. USA Today reports that when Wuu noticed that no toys looked like her son because of his hearing aids, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Working as a skilled nail technician, Wuu used clear nail acrylic and colored polish to shape, mold, and decorate Woody his own matching hearing aid set. Just like Andy in the Disney/Pixar Toy Story film franchise, Sheriff Woody is her son’s favorite toy.
Deej looks pretty happy holding the upgraded Woody doll! Deej turns his head side to side to show off the new connection he has with the Disney/Pixar character. He happily pulls Woody’s talking string and enjoys hearing all his favorite catchphrases.
Wendy also made sure to carve “DJ” into Woody’s cowboy boot, the same way Andy and Bonnie do in the movies, to mark ownership. It’s the details that really count.
Do you think Disney and Pixar will consider it for the plot of Toy Story 5? Who knows!
