Top Ten Mistakes with FastPass+

Top Ten Mistakes with FastPass+

10.  Picking the wrong attraction.

Look at the complete list of attractions that have a FastPass+ and choose wisely and carefully since you are only given three to start with.  You don’t want to pick Space Mountain if you really wanted Splash Mountain.  Look at the description of the attraction online or on the park Map to make the right choice for you. FP+ are specific and not interchangeable.

9. Failure to write down the times and attractions, or take a photo of the screen.

If you are making FP+ selections or changing them at the FP+ kiosk you also need to write down the times and attractions or take a photo of the screen so you can remember them and show a Cast Member in case their screen does not show that you have a reservation.

8. Not knowing how to use FastPass+ along with Park Hopper

Disney has recently changed their policies on this, for the better.  Each guest gets three FastPass+ in one park.  After you use those three FP+’s you can get a rolling FP+ time, only at a kiosk, to get a fourth FP+. You do not have to use all the first set of FP+’s but their time has to have expired before you can get the rolling FP+’s. Here is an example: You are at Hollywood Studios and you choose a FP+ for Tower of Terror at 9-10AM, Toy Story Midway Mania at 10-11AM and Muppets 3D from 6-7PM.  During lunch you decide to park hop to Magic Kingdom but you still have that Muppets 3D FP+. Go to a kiosk and change the Muppets 3D to any attraction that has an immediate time and either do that attraction or leave the park. By the time you get to the Magic Kingdom you will be able to go to a FP+ kiosk and make that fourth rolling FP+ selection for Space Mountain.  After you use that fourth FP+ you can go to a FP+ kiosk again and make another FP+ selection.  You can do that through the evening as long as there are FP+’s available.  If you had not changed that Muppets 3D FP+ to an earlier time, you would have waited until 7PM to make that fourth rolling FP+ selection.

7. Not knowing where the FastPass+ kiosks are takes time away from the attractions.

Know where the kiosks are, look on your park Map. They are clearly marked on the Maps, and there is a separate FP+ Flyer next to the Park Map and Times Guide at the front of the park.  The flyer tells you what attractions you can choose a FP+ time for and where the kiosks are located.  You can use this flyer to select with a pen/pencil which attractions you want and also write down your times on it.  The Map shows the locations of the kiosks which will save you time if you need to make or change FP+ selections.

6. Not making the best use of FP+ for their group.

Some FP+’s would be more valuable than others. Don’t forget you can get FP+ for shows, parades, meet and greets and fireworks as well as the rides. Getting a FP+ for one of these could free up hours of your time in which you can enjoy the other attractions with a shorter wait time.  For instance, if you want to watch the Festival of Fantasy Parade you could get a FP+ for it and instead of staking out your spot along Main Street or Frontierland you can enjoy other attractions then go to your FP+ reserved area directly in front of Cinderella Castle just before the parade begins in your reserved spot.

5. Making FP+ selections for people who cannot ride an attraction.

Don’t choose a FastPass+ for someone who cannot ride that attraction.  If a child is not tall enough to ride an attraction don’t waste one of their FP+’s on it.  Yes it is easier to just check the box for the whole group rather than selecting only the people who will ride that attraction, but do it anyway. If your older group members want to ride Big Thunder Mountain and the little ones don’t want to, or are not tall enough, choose the BTM for the members of your group who do want to ride it and something nearby, like Tom Sawyer’s Island, for the younger members and one adult. That adult can get a Rider Switch ticket since they are waiting with kids who can’t ride.  When the other adults finish riding BTMR they can take the raft across to TSI and change places with the adult with the kids. That adult can choose two adults to ride BTMR again with them and they go through the FastPass+ line.  TSI is great for kids! There is even a playground and bathrooms on the island. You cannot get a FP+ for Tom Sawyer’s Island, but you could get them FP+’s for a ride like Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, Dumbo or Barnstormer. In the same way you don’t want to schedule FastPass+ times for your whole group if the little girls want a meet and greet with a Disney Princess in Princess Fairytale Hall.  Look for attractions nearby for the rest of the group to do, like Peter Pan.

4. Thinking you can go anytime to ride.

You are choosing your FP+ times, and you are responsible for coming during those times. Don’t expect to come in early or arrive late and think you are going to ride.  There is a certain number of FP+’s available for each hour and it will mess up the whole system to have people only coming when they want to and not during the time they signed up for. Be glad you got a FP+ and use it appropriately.

3. Not planning ahead.

This is important so you can enjoy things like meals, parades, etc.  Be aware of the items listed on your Times Guide as well as your dining reservations when considering your FastPass+ selections.  If you pick times as early as possible for your group, you still have the option to get those additional selections later on, or use in another park.  Make restroom stops before getting in line.

2. Not connecting your group in your MyDisneyExperience account.

If everyone in your party is connected through their MyDisneyExperience accounts you can book the whole group at one time when making FastPass+ selections so you all have the same times for the attractions. (Keep #5 in mind when doing this.)

1. Not making use of the early booking for FastPass+.

The simplest and most important task is to make the FastPass+ reservations as early as you can. If you are booking a Disney package including the room and tickets you will be able to book your FastPass+ selections 60 days prior to your arrival date, for your length of stay. You can use the app, website, or kiosk to make your selections.  If you are an  Annual Passholder you will be able to book FP+ for seven days out of the next 30 day period. After you use the first of the seven days you will be able to book an additional day, rolling through the next 30 days. You can use the app, website or kiosk to book them.  If you are a day guest you will be able to book your FP+ selections at the FP+ kiosk after you enter the park. All additional FP+ selections, after the first three must be made at the FP+ kiosk in that park.

About Cassie

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food and being able to share it with you to help you plan your own magical day at Disney.
