Whether it is your first trip or you 33rd, there is always something to look forward to at Walt Disney World. Frankly, the only way I’m able to deal with my post Disney sadness is to start planning my next trip and begin day dreaming about what I will do while I’m there. So here are my Top 10 Things I’m looking forward to when I travel back to Disney:
10. Returning to a favorite restaurant or eating a favorite food
Although I enjoy trying new things, I have a few places I always like to schedule into our trip. For our family that is usually Via Napoli and 50’s Prime Time Café—we just enjoy them that much. There are also a few food items that I can’t wait to taste again. Mickey Waffles, Dole Whips and a carrot cake cookie top my list. I can’t wait to have another slice (or 3) of Via Napoli’s pizza.
9. Trying a New Resort
We have our “home” resorts, but it is always nice to try a new resort or re-visit a place you haven’t stayed in years. I’m looking forward to upcoming stays at the Grand Floridian (for the first time) and the Contemporary Resort (we’ve done Bay Lake Tower, but not the actual Contemporary). And every trip I find myself looking forward to spending some relaxing time hanging out at the resort, regardless of which one that is.
8. Finding a New Character
This was especially the case a few years ago when my children were younger, but now that I have a toddler who is getting into character hunting it is coming back around. It is either a character we missed on our last trip, an elusive character that is hard to find, or a character in a special costume like at a Halloween party or during the Christmas season. For us the most rewarding find was Rabbit from Winnie-the-Pooh in Epcot’s United Kingdom.
7. Seeing a Different Season
Disney does a great job dressing the parks up at certain times of the year to match that season. I love going in the fall to see the decorations on Main Street, and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is one of my favorite Walt Disney World things. For my next trip I am excited to go back and see the Christmas Decorations in the parks and resorts, and experience the Christmas activities like the Candlelight Processional and the Epcot storytellers.
6. Doing Something We Missed
We are lucky to be repeat Walt Disney World guests, but there is always something we don’t quite get around to doing each trip. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so that attraction or activity is usually high on our list of things to look forward to the next time we go. On our most recent trip I didn’t get a chance to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, so I am looking forward to that in a few months.

5. Trying Something New
This could be an attraction you’ve never done, or maybe one that your child is just now tall enough to ride. Maybe it is your first time to try an event like Star Wars Galactic Nights, an evening party, the Food & Wine Festival, or a the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party. Or it could be giving something completely different a trip like mini-golf, a waterpark, renting a boat, going bowling, or playing a round of golf. On our last trip I was super excited about bowling at Splitsville and it was every bit as fun as I had hoped. For my next trip I want to rent a boat on Bay Lake.
4. Trying a New Restaurant
As much as I love my favorites in #10 I enjoy giving a different restaurant a try as often as I can. It is fun to taste different foods and experience a fresh atmosphere since Disney does such a fantastic job theming its restaurants. On my looking forward to list are The Edison at Disney Springs and Tiffins at Animal Kingdom.
3. A Behind the Scenes or VIP Tour
This could go along with trying something new. I love to schedule a special tour on my trips and we try to do one each time we go down for a full week. The next one I’m looking forward to is the full day Backstage Magic tour when my oldest turns 16 so we can go together.
2. New Attractions
This is different than #5—not just something new to you, but something entirely new to Walt Disney World since the last time you visited. It could be a show (major or minor), an attraction, a queue. Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios will be new to many for a long time starting this summer. And maybe you haven’t had a chance to check out Pandora – The World of Avatar just yet!
1. Seeing My Child’s Reaction
No matter how many times I go it is different every time because my children are a different age or they are at a different stage in life where different things interest them. As a mom, the thing I look forward to the most is watching them enjoy our vacation. Whether it is my then toddlers reaction meeting Mickey Mouse, my teenagers-year-old’s screams of delight on Test Track, or my almost adult son taking in the experience of Kilimanjaro Safari . . . it is worth it every time to see their face.
What are you looking forward to on your next Walt Disney World Vacation?
