These Disney World Rides Will Be Off-Limits in September 2025
Disney World is constantly changing. Sometimes, the updates are exciting, and other times, they leave fans scratching their heads. September 2025 falls firmly into the second category. If you were hoping to enjoy certain classic attractions, you might want to rethink your trip—or at least lower your expectations.
Here’s a look at what’s closed, gone, or under construction across the parks.
Animal Kingdom: DinoLand’s Last Gasps
- DinoLand U.S.A. is almost extinct. On September 2, The Boneyard—an oversized fossil dig site and climbing playground—permanently shuts down.
- TriceraTop Spin, among other parts of the area, has already closed.
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug ended earlier this year to make way for a Zootopia attraction in late 2025.
Magic Kingdom: A Park in Transition
Over at Magic Kingdom, closures are hitting some of the park’s most famous attractions.
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad went down in January 2025 and won’t return until sometime in 2026.
- Fans of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are also out of luck—its refurbishment started in August 2025, with a reopening date set for 2026.
- The Dumbo-themed Storybook Circus playground is still under construction, though Disney expects it to reopen before the end of the year.
- Meanwhile, other experiences won’t be returning. Liberty Belle Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and Rivers of America have all closed permanently, clearing the way for future projects.
- Even the Walt Disney World Railroad feels the impact. The route is modified while trains run since the Frontierland station remains closed.
It’s a reminder that even Magic Kingdom—the most classic of the parks—isn’t immune to significant changes.
EPCOT: The Icon on Hold
EPCOT’s symbol, Spaceship Earth, remains closed after its August 2025 refurbishment began. The slow-moving trip through the history of communication is expected to reopen by the end of the year, but in September, it’s still unavailable.
Hollywood Studios: Entertainment Cuts
- The Disney Jr. Play and Dance show gave preschoolers a lively, interactive stage experience. However, it will close forever on September 25.
- Star Wars Launch Bay will also close permanently on September 25. This attraction displayed props and offered meet-and-greets with Star Wars characters.
These attractions will close to make way for the Magic of Disney Animation area.
- Earlier this summer, MuppetVision 3D and its surrounding courtyard restaurants closed for good, erasing another beloved piece of the park.
Water Parks and Resorts
Blizzard Beach closes for the season on September 8, while Typhoon Lagoon remains open for now. Disney typically rotates the two water parks, so guests should check before planning a splash day.
Resorts are also under heavy construction, with dining, pools, and even whole sections of hotels closed off at times. Guests are wise to double-check before booking.
How This Impacts Your Trip
September 2025 brings more closures than most guests expect. Many must-do attractions are unavailable, from Magic Kingdom’s headliners to Animal Kingdom’s disappearing land and EPCOT’s darkened sphere. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but closures also signal something new is on the horizon.
