Yes, you read that right.

Today, Disney Parks are known as wholesome, family-friendly entertainment. Every year, millions of Guests choose Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort as the perfect place for a safe and magical vacation. Guests love to escape the darkness of our world and instead live in the joyful “Disney Bubble.”

This is why fans will be shocked to learn that, at one point, Disney was allowing live rounds to be shot on Disney property.

The Truth About Disney’s Often-Forgotten Shooting Range

Gun control is one of today’s most controversial and widely discussed issues. Gun violence against children has been a significant target of discussion for parents everywhere. After all of the school shootings that have happened in the past decades, parents are more sensitive to the issue than ever.

Many parents gravitate to Disney because of how safe and sheltered their children are on the property. However, in the past, this was not the case. Disney used to allow a potentially dangerous shooting range on the property.Ā 

Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade

The Frontierland Shootin Arcade is an attraction located in Magic Kingdom. Today, the attraction uses infrared light sensors to allow Guests to test their sharpshooting skills. However, it used a much more dangerous alternative when the attraction opened. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade used to use lead pelletsĀ in the attraction. The pellets caused so much damage that Cast Members had to repaint the ride daily.

It is very understandable why Disney chose to make the switch, as lead pellets can pose a substantial potential danger to Guests. That kind of risky behavior would not slide in today’s world. Now, the lead pellets are just an interesting Disney fact and memory of what Walt Disney World was like.
