The Recent Fall of Disney’s Ambitious ‘Star Wars’ Ride

Disney’s ambitious Star Wars attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, has been a standout feature at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since its opening in 2019, pushing the boundaries of theme park innovation. Unfortunately, visitors faced an unexpected late-night delay on the Walt Disney World Resort attraction.

TikTok user @fairytalelife_wife shared a video of the ordeal, showing guests stuck in the ride around 10:00 p.m. last week. The clip depicted a group of Walt Disney World Resort guests sitting in a motionless ride vehicle just a few feet away from the unloading platform, with a Disney cast member standing nearby.

“Happy it was the end of ride where it happened, and they are super quick, [throughout] all through the process of getting you out,” the Disney Park guest said.

This isn’t the first time Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has experienced technical difficulties. The ride’s advanced trackless system, while revolutionary, is known to be sensitive. Something as minor as a dropped hat or cell phone can trigger an emergency shutdown. After years, one of the ride’s special effects—the moving cannons—remains nonfunctional at the Walt Disney World Resort despite being repaired at Disneyland Resort.

It’s unclear exactly what caused this breakdown. Walt Disney World Resort rarely issues public statements about minor malfunctions, and this incident was no exception. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance reopened shortly after the incident, operating as usual in the days that followed.

For those heading to Walt Disney World Resort in the future, it might be a good idea to pack some patience and be ready for potential delays. Disney cast members work to resolve any technical issues as efficiently as possible.
