The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the most heartwarming holiday classics ever made. A musical retelling of the timeless 1843 novella by Charles Dickens—but with Muppets, of course—the 1992 film features all your favorite characters in a story led by Michael Caine as the merry-less miser Ebenezer Scrooge.
Since its release 33 years ago, the film has taken on a life of its own. Not only has it become a staple tradition for families during the Yuletide season, but recent years have seen a cut featuring the restored song “When Love Is Gone” appear on Disney+, a cozy storybook adaptation hit shelves, and the film played in front of a live orchestra.

The Muppet Christmas Carol Is Heading to Theaters
Though limited only to venues and theaters throughout the U.K., The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film is a wonderful way to revisit your favorite festive flick on the big screen with a magical twist (click here for information on dates, venues, and tickets).
But not only is The Muppet Christmas Carol returning to theaters in front of a live orchestra for the fifth consecutive year, it’s also heading back to the Prince Charles Cinema in the West End following its run last year, thelondonist.com has reported.
The film will show at Prince Charles Cinema from November 28— December 24, 2025. If these daily treats—which are appropriately very “advent calendar” in nature—aren’t enough, then you’ll also be thrilled to know that, per the official website, “you can expect SING ALONG performances of this new version of The Muppet Christmas Carol.“

The Muppets Are Making a Major Comeback
In addition to the festive side of the franchise, the Muppets are set to return in a few other areas. While this summer saw the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World, your favorite felt-covered characters will return to the park next year in a re-theme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, replacing the Aerosmith aesthetic.
Meanwhile, according to a report from Variety, Disney+ “has greenlit a one-off Muppet Show event special” to honor The Muppet Show’s 50th anniversary, which will air in 2026.
Is The Muppet Christmas Carol Still on Disney+?
Yes! The Muppet Christmas Carol is still on Disney+. You’ll find two versions of the film on the streaming service — the original theatrical cut and the version with the restored song “When the Love Is Gone” (you’ll have to go into the bonus features section to find it).
Here’s the official description for the film from Disney+:
“Tis the season for love, laughter and one of the most cherished stories of all time. Join Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and all the hilarious Muppets in this merry, magical version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Michael Caine gives a performance that’s anything but ‘bah, humbug!’ as greedy, penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge. One fateful Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Together with kind, humble Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) and his family, these Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes–and his heart–to the true meaning of Christmas.”
