Walton Goggins (Ant-Man and the Wasp) has taken over as Ebenezer Scrooge in a new project inspired by The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), replacing Michael Caine in the iconic role.
The unexpected casting comes courtesy of Walmart, which has teamed up with Disney and The Muppets Studio to bring the holiday favorite back into the spotlight.
Titled Walmart Presents: A Who Knew Carol, the ad reimagines the film’s song “Scrooge,” with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo the Great as narrator Charles Dickens joining Goggins for the festive performance. Watch it below:
While this isn’t a new feature film, the campaign does give fans another chance to revisit one of the Muppets’ most enduring holiday stories.
Directed by Brian Henson, The Muppet Christmas Carol adapts Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella, combining the classic redemption story with Muppet humor and musical numbers. More than three decades after its release, the movie remains a seasonal favorite.

The Walmart campaign is part of the retailer’s ongoing Who Knew marketing initiative, and it arrives alongside new merchandise inspired by the film. Disney Store has also unveiled several new items, continuing a seasonal tradition that has kept fans of the film busy in recent years.
Last year, many rushed to secure limited pin and plushie advent calendars. Chicago pop-punk band Fall Out Boy also gave the film’s “It Feels Like Christmas” a rock makeover for the Spotify Singles Holiday series.
Could The Muppet Christmas Carol Return?
There’s absolutely no confirmation that the ad will lead to a new film, but fans can still speculate about an official sequel or remake.
For now, audiences can catch the original film on Disney+, where they’ll also find the extended cut featuring “When Love Is Gone.” The story also lives on in The Muppet Christmas Carol: The Illustrated Holiday Classic, a book adaptation available on Amazon.
The movie is also returning to UK venues through The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film, which pairs a screening of the classic with a live orchestra performing the score.
