The story follows a lone surviving Turtle who returns to a battle-ravaged New York City with one mission: avenging his fallen family by taking down Oroku Hiroto, the leader of the Foot Clan. But this isn’t simply a retelling of the comic.

Burnham expands the story with additional scenes, flashbacks, and emotional moments that make the characters feel more developed than ever before. By the end, it almost feels like the comic was adapted from the novel rather than the other way around.

Rather than simply delivering another action-packed TMNT adventure, the novel focuses on the people behind the masks. Told in third person and largely following the titular Turtle, it gives readers an intimate look at the bond between the brothers and the devastating events that shaped their lives.
