Summer at Disney World Won’t Be the Same—Here’s Why Everyone’s Talking About May 2025

Summer at Disney World is never boring, but this year it’s going to be anything but typical.

Starting in May, guests will see a wave of changes that could impact their plans in big ways. From new shows to early park closings and exclusive Passholder perks, there’s a lot happening—and it’s all kicking off soon.

All the changes coming to Disney World this summer

Star Wars Day at Hollywood Studios
May 4th is Star Wars Day, and it’s one of the busiest days of the year at Hollywood Studios. The park will be packed with fans celebrating all things from a galaxy far, far away. Expect limited-time treats, exclusive merchandise, and a very high crowd level. If you’re not a big Star Wars fan, you might want to avoid Hollywood Studios that day altogether.

EPCOT Closes Early May 21st
Planning an EPCOT night in late May? Not so fast. On May 21st, the park will close at 7:30 p.m. due to a private corporate event. Guests will be asked to exit early, and this could push larger crowds into the other three parks that evening. It’s something to consider if you’re hoping to catch fireworks or enjoy a more relaxed night.

New Stage Shows Begin May 27th
Hollywood Studios is getting not one but two new live shows—The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. Both debut on May 27th, and showtimes will be listed in the My Disney Experience app. It’s rare for Disney to launch two entertainment options on the same day, so this is definitely one of the more exciting updates.

V.I.PASSHOLDER Days Return
Annual Passholders have something to look forward to starting May 14. V.I.PASSHOLDER Days are coming back through July 31. Previous years have included exclusive lounges, freebies, and discounts—so even if Disney hasn’t released full details yet, the history suggests it’ll be worth checking out.

Holiday Weekends = Higher Crowds
Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day are both in May, and both are known for drawing big crowds. If you’re visiting during these times, it’s best to plan ahead, rope drop your favorite attractions, and expect longer-than-average wait times.

The Bottom Line
This isn’t your typical summer at Disney World. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Annual Passholder, the parks are shifting—adding new entertainment, hosting exclusive events, and adjusting hours. If you’re visiting soon, make sure you go in with a plan.

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
