For fans of Stranger Things, the death of Eddie Munson in Season 4 was one of the most heart-wrenching moments in the entire series.

Eddie, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, quickly became a fan-favorite after his introduction, and his heroic sacrifice in the Upside Down resonated deeply with viewers.

While Eddie may not be making a supernatural return in Season 5 (at least not that we know of), he is coming back in an all-new prequel comic book series titled Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire.

Set to release in February 2025, this new addition to the Stranger Things universe promises to give fans more of the Eddie content they’ve been craving.

Eddie’s Legacy in Stranger Things

Eddie Munson made a significant impact during his short time on Stranger Things, particularly in his leadership of the Hellfire Club, the group’s Dungeons & Dragons campaign. His rebellious attitude and lovable charm won over the hearts of fans.

Unfortunately, Eddie’s time in Hawkins was cut short when he sacrificed himself to protect Dustin and the others in the Upside Down. His death sent shockwaves through the fandom, with many hoping for his return in some form.

Although Eddie won’t physically return in Season 5 (yet, anyway), Netflix has found another way to bring him back.

The Rise of Hellfire, an upcoming prequel comic series from Dark Horse Comics, will allow fans to explore Eddie’s past as the leader of the Hellfire Club. Written by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell, and illustrated by Diego Galindo, the series is set before the events of Season 4 and will give us a glimpse into Eddie’s life before his fateful journey into the Upside Down.

What We Know About the Prequel Comic

The Rise of Hellfire will take fans on a journey back to the days when Eddie was rallying his friends for Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, long before monsters from the Upside Down invaded their world. As the synopsis describes, the comic will focus on Eddie’s rise to leadership in the Hellfire Club, his recruitment of characters like Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, and their shared adventures in the fantasy world of D&D. For fans who were hoping to see more of Eddie’s charisma and leadership, this prequel is sure to be a treat.

The first issue of The Rise of Hellfire is set to release on February 19, 2025, just a few months before the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things debuts. While the prequel won’t directly impact the storyline of Season 5, it will offer more depth to the character of Eddie and his bond with the core group of friends in Hawkins.

Eddie in Season 5: What Are the Chances?

While fans eagerly await the final season, speculation has run wild about whether Eddie Munson will somehow return in the flesh. Some fans are holding onto hope that the Duffer Brothers could pull off a supernatural twist, bringing Eddie back in some form for the grand finale. After all, Stranger Things has never shied away from supernatural elements. However, nothing has been confirmed regarding his appearance in Season 5, and the focus remains on the series’ core characters facing their final battles against the Upside Down.

As filming for the final season continues, it’s clear that Stranger Things Season 5 will be an emotional journey for fans, marking the end of a series that has captivated audiences since its debut in 2016. Whether Eddie will make a cameo or appear in flashbacks remains a mystery, but his impact on the series and its fandom is undeniable.
