‘Star Wars’ Fully Unveils Ahsoka Replacement, Ashley Eckstein’s Future in ‘Star Wars’ Unknown

The Star Wars animated universe has steadily expanded beyond the films, providing narrative depth to characters and events only hinted at on the big screen.

Disney+ has become the primary platform for this evolution, hosting projects such as The Bad Batch (2021) and the Tales of anthology series, both of which maintain the visual style first established in The Clone Wars (2008–2020).

These shows have explored everything from the fallout of Order 66 to the rise of the Empire, and the experiences of characters who are forced to survive in the shadows of galactic conflict.

A New Ahsoka Tano-Like Character Arrives

The upcoming series, Maul – Shadow Lord, continues that exploration. Sam Witwer reprises his role as the former Sith Lord as he attempts to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

Amid this setting is Devon Izara, a Twi’lek Jedi on the run after Order 66.

Who Is Devon Izara?

Voiced by Gideon Adlon, Devon is forced into hiding while navigating an unpredictable new galaxy. StarWars.com describes her as “living in hiding to survive in challenging times”, adding that “she must adapt and accept a future far different than the one she expected for herself.”

Devon’s story intersects with Maul—voiced by Sam Witwer—who remains a calculating threat throughout the series. Her arc introduces moral ambiguity and survival instincts previously explored in characters like Ahsoka Tano, the Togruta Jedi who debuted in The Clone Wars (2008) and was voiced by Ashley Eckstein.

The two characters are also comparable because of their appearances, with the Twi’lek sharing certain physical traits with the Togruta, as well as their relationships with Maul.

Now, a brand-new trailer for the upcoming series gives us a closer look at Devon:

Whether or not Eckstein will return to the role of Ahsoka in the future remains uncertain; however, given the fact she has played the character since 2008 and has returned on more than one occasion, it’s likely she will. She may even appear in Maul – Shadow Lord.

Otherwise, the new series’ supporting cast includes Richard Ayoade (Two-Boots), Vanessa Marshall (Rook Kast), Chris Diamantopoulos (Looti Vario), A.J. LoCascio (Marrok), David W. Collins (Spybot), Steve Blum (Icarus), Wagner Moura (Brander Lawson), Dennis Haysbert (Master Eeko-Dio-Daki), and Charlie Bushnell (Rylee Lawson).

Maul – Shadow Lord is set to premiere on Disney+ on April 6 with a two-episode opening event.
