Ashley Eckstein Is Back! ‘Star Wars’ Confirms New Version of Ahsoka in Upcoming Series
Ahsoka Tano is gearing up for her live-action return, but fans won’t have to wait until Season 2 of Ahsoka hits Disney+ in 2026 to see the beloved Force-user back in action. In fact, her next appearance will arrive much sooner—and she’ll once again be voiced by the actress who originally brought her to life.
First appearing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), Ahsoka was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s determined and defiant Padawan. What began as a polarizing addition to the galaxy far, far away has since evolved into one of the franchise’s most impactful character arcs. Walking away from the Jedi Order after being wrongfully accused of treason, Ahsoka became a symbol of integrity and growth within the saga.
Voiced by Ashley Eckstein in The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi, Ahsoka’s animated evolution earned her a dedicated fan base. When the character transitioned into live-action via The Mandalorian Season 2, Rosario Dawson stepped into the role. She carried that portrayal through The Book of Boba Fett and eventually headlined her own series, Ahsoka, which picked up after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI–Return of the Jedi (1983) and tied heavily into the continuity of Rebels.
While Ahsoka was highly anticipated, the series drew mixed reactions. Created by Dave Filoni, the show leaned into the mythological and mystical, becoming a spiritual successor to Rebels. Despite its divisive nature, Lucasfilm confirmed a second season in early 2024, with filming now underway. Season 2 is expected to debut in 2026.
Returning cast members include Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Following the tragic passing of Ray Stevenson, the role of Baylan Skoll will now be portrayed by Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann.
Before then, however, Ahsoka fans will get a special treat. Ashley Eckstein is set to reprise her role in a different project arriving this fall: LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past. A follow-up to last year’s animated special, the four-part prequel will debut on Disney+ on September 19, 2025.
The series, created by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, was officially revealed during Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo. Joining the announcement was Ahmed Best, reprising his unique take as Darth Jar Jar, and Ashley Eckstein, who confirmed her emotional return to the role she helped define.
“When I got the call that I was going to be returning as Ahsoka, I cried […] I’ve missed her so much. I’ve missed you all so much,” StarWars.com reported on the announcement. “This has really been a dream come true. I am such a huge fan of LEGO. I have so many of these Ahsoka BrickHeadz and I now get to voice her!”
Eckstein added, “Last time I was on this stage, I talked about how Ahsoka lives in all of us, and we’ve really made Ahsoka’s story our own story. We’ve experienced Star Wars for an entire generation through Ahsoka’s eyes… and we’ve literally created our own story through Ahsoka, and that’s what this story is about. There’s so much heart in BrickHeadz Ahsoka, and we’re all going to relate to her. You’re going to love it.”
While this new project sits outside official canon, it represents how Lucasfilm continues to find inventive ways to expand its universe. With both theatrical and streaming initiatives in development, the franchise appears poised to stay prominent for years to come.
The animation side isn’t the only area seeing movement. On the live-action front, 2026 will bring The Mandalorian and Grogu, a big-screen continuation of the Disney+ flagship, along with Star Wars: Starfighter, led by Ryan Gosling and helmed by Shawn Levy in 2027.
Not all of Lucasfilm’s streaming experiments have landed cleanly. The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew stirred debate, with The Acolyte ultimately canceled. However, this year’s new season of Andor from Tony Gilroy has reignited praise. The recent episodes “Who Are You?” and “Welcome to the Rebellion” have become two of the highest-rated in IMDb’s television rankings.
Whether in live-action, animation, or comedic LEGO form, Ahsoka’s enduring presence continues to serve as a beacon for Star Wars storytelling. For longtime fans and newer audiences alike, 2025 promises another compelling chapter in her journey.
