A runDisney participant is under fire after her Tiana’s Bayou Adventure/Splash Mountain costume sparked accusations of racism during the 2024 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World Resort. The Disney Park guest showcased her Princess Tiana outfit alongside another guest dressed as Br’er Rabbit, the former protagonist of Tiana’s new ride.

Earlier this month, Michelle (@michellehusslein on TikTok) shared a video showcasing her Splash Mountain and Princess and the Frog (2009)- inspired costume. In the video, Michelle and another Disney Wine & Dine 10k runner staged a skit in which Br’er Rabbit handed over the “deed” to Splash Mountain to Princess Tiana, symbolizing the transformation of the Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park rides into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

“Passing down the mountain,” Michelle wrote.

While some Disney Parks fans praised Michelle’s creative outfit, others took issue with it. A heated discussion erupted when social media users claimed Michelle used bronzer to darken her skin to resemble Princess Tiana, a move they equated to blackface, a deeply offensive and outdated practice.

One Reddit user called the costume “questionable,” while others outright accused Michelle of racial insensitivity:

“Questionable at best,” another Reddit user replied. “It’s definitely giving blackface lite.”

“Uh, is that a white lady?” another asked.

However, some defended the Splash Mountain/Tiana’s Bayou Adventure costume, saying it was a harmless creative effort.

“You guys killed it with the costume,” one TikTok user commented.

“Omg I was right behind you guys and I LOVED yall look,” another Disney Parks fan added.

Despite the backlash online, Michelle has not publicly addressed the accusations or confirmed whether she used bronzer for her Princess Tiana costume.

  1. But it’s OK to put green makeup on a Black woman to place in the role of a White character in European folklore and literature such as was done in the Wicked movie, a debauchery of Oz and his character…

  2. Get real. You guys need to see what is really going on. It isn’t OK one way and not the other. I agree with Who me. Get past it.

  3. Some people will use ANY EXCUSE to throw out the “Race Card”!!! A LOT of people get “deep tans” that make their “nationality/race” questionable, but so what?!??!?!
Additionally, there was NOTHING in the least bit “RACIST” about “Splash Mountain” — while the characters depicted in the ride WERE from the movie “Song of the South”, the characters themselves were CARTOON CHARACTERS!!! People that “found” the ride “offensive” over CARTOON CHACTERS need to get a REAL LIFE & quit with the “feigned SNOWFLAKE BS” of being “OFFENDED” by everything that THEY find objectionable!!!

    • 100% agree. People use the anonymity of social media to make these accusations. They would never do it if they weren’t hiding behind a screen.

  4. Gotta love it when those crucifiying the woman for being racist are putting on a front like they aren’t racist themselves lol. This is the problem I have with those that love their race card. Let’s be real here. Everybody is racist.

  5. If users watched the rest of her videos you could easily tell her skin is the same in that video as the rest of her videos.
