Wait times exploded on Sunday at Magic Kingdom as Guests raced to be counted among the final Guests to ever experience an iconic attraction.
Sunday was a busy day inside Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney Parks doesn’t make public its daily park attendance numbers, but the wait times at one of the park’s most beloved attractions spoke volumes. The park opened at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday and remained open until 11:00 p.m., giving the ample crowds of Guests fourteen full hours to enjoy all the rides, attractions, shows, character encounters, parades, and food that Magic Kingdom has to offer across the park’s six different themed lands–Main Street, U. S. A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.
Though the park has six distinct themed areas in which kids and kids at heart can revel in the wonder of Disney magic, on Sunday, one land saw insane lines at one iconic attraction, as thousands upon thousands of fans converged on Magic Kingdom property to experience the Splash Mountain attraction in Frontierland one final time.
As forecast by Disney weeks beforehand, Splash Mountain’s final log flume fell over the 50-foot waterfall in Frontierland on Sunday evening, and the wait times for the attraction throughout the day easily served as proof of Guests’ affinity for the ride.
According to Thrill-Data, Guests waiting in line to ride Splash Mountain one last time saw the highest wait times ever recorded at the attraction. The historical average wait time for the log flume ride was 47 minutes, but on Sunday, Guests waited as long as 220 minutes–or three hours and forty minutes–to bid farewell to Br’er Rabbit and the gang.
In addition to Sunday’s long wait times, Splash Mountain saw wait times more than 111% longer than usual all week long, and throughout the month of January, wait times were approximately 71% longer than the norm.
Wishing you well, Br’er Rabbit, and may plenty of sunshine always be heading your way!
