Something unusual is happening at one of EPCOT’s oldest locations, and Walt Disney World visitors may notice some changes during their next trip.
Disney has continued making improvements throughout EPCOT, with projects ranging from major attraction updates to smaller changes around existing restaurants and walkways.
Now, another familiar area of the park is receiving attention.
The latest activity comes just weeks after a temporary closure that already brought improvements to a destination that has been welcoming guests for 40 years.

And while Disney hasn’t announced exactly what comes next, the new work could be a sign that additional updates are on the way.
A 40-Year-Old EPCOT Location Is Getting Attention
Coral Reef Restaurant has been part of Walt Disney World since January 15, 1986, when it opened alongside The Living Seas pavilion.
The restaurant quickly became known for its unusual dining atmosphere, allowing guests to enjoy their meals while watching marine animals swim through a massive aquarium.
Over the years, EPCOT has experienced numerous transformations, including the eventual reimagining of The Living Seas into The Seas with Nemo & Friends.
Despite those changes, Coral Reef Restaurant has remained a familiar destination for generations of Disney visitors.
Now, something new is happening outside the restaurant.
According to reports from WDWNT, fresh cuts have appeared across portions of the pavement surrounding the dining location.
Several straight lines intersect across the reddish concrete, dividing the surface into smaller sections.
Other cuts extend into the adjoining gray walkway, including areas surrounding a manhole cover.
Although the pavement looks different, the affected walkway remains open to visitors.
Disney hasn’t announced the purpose of the cuts, but the activity could indicate preparations for replacing additional concrete.
Disney Recently Made Another Change Nearby
The new development follows a temporary refurbishment that began on September 8, 2026.
Coral Reef Restaurant reopened on September 29 after work reportedly included updates to portions of its kitchen.
However, the restaurant wasn’t the only area receiving attention.
Disney also installed decorative pavement outside the entrance, replacing part of the older surface with a design inspired by the surrounding aquatic environment.
The updated concrete features a wavy pattern with small white seashells embedded throughout the surface.
It’s a fitting addition for a restaurant known for its underwater views.

With additional pavement cuts now appearing nearby, there’s speculation that Disney could extend the seashell design farther along the walkway.
Nearby rolling planters also remain positioned beneath the monorail beam, close to the pavilion’s recognizable blue wave mural.
Another curved section of pavement already features white shell details.
However, Disney has not confirmed whether the latest work is connected to those earlier improvements.
Will More Changes Follow at EPCOT?
For guests planning an upcoming EPCOT visit, the latest activity doesn’t appear to be causing significant disruptions.
The newly scored pavement remained accessible when the work was documented, and Disney has not announced another Coral Reef Restaurant closure connected to the project.
There is also no confirmation that the work represents a larger transformation of The Seas pavilion.
Instead, it could simply be another maintenance project intended to refresh an aging section of the park.
Still, the timing is interesting.
Coral Reef Restaurant celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year, and the surrounding area has already received noticeable improvements following its September refurbishment.
Now, additional pavement work has appeared just weeks later.
Whether Disney plans to continue the decorative design or has something else in mind remains unclear.
For now, visitors can expect to see signs of change outside one of EPCOT’s longest-running restaurants as Disney continues updating the park.
