Shut Down: Fantasmic! Ceases All Operations at Disney World
Fantasmic! experienced an unexpected halt during a recent performance after a technical mishap sent thousands of gallons of water cascading onto unsuspecting Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests. This disruption led to the abrupt stopping of the show, and the affected guests were left confused and soaked.
For 26 years, Fantasmic! has been a beloved part of Walt Disney World Resort entertainment. The show first debuted at Disneyland Park in 1992, and a version was also introduced at Tokyo DisneySea, though it was eventually replaced by BraviSEAmO!.
The Disneyland Resort show has had its share of issues, including a devastating fire that damaged the Maleficent dragon animatronic in 2023. The Disneyland show eventually reopened without the mechanical dragon. However, Walt Disney World Resort’s version of Fantasmic! recently encountered a technical issue of its own.
During a recent performance, a malfunction caused some water sprayers, which are part of the show’s special effects, to spray the audience instead of the intended show area. This unexpected mishap left guests drenched and forced Fantasmic! to be halted mid-performance.
One Disney Park guest, TikTok user @xoerynnn, posted a video of the incident shortly after it occurred, sharing her frustration as she described how the show was “ruined” for her. “POV: Your FIRST ever Fantasmic experience is ruined minutes into the show due to guests being sprayed in the face with thousands of gallons of water uncontrollably,” the guest wrote in the video’s caption.
@xoerynnn Let’s just say my Fantasmic experience didn’t end so magically… 🪄✨🤍 @Disney @Disney Parks #creatorsearchinsights #disneyworld #hollywoodstudios #disney #themepark #fantasmic #fantasmicshow #wdw #disneytiktok #disneyadult
Another affected Disney Park guest, @carriem249, commented on the video, saying, “I was in the front row, right in the center. Not gonna lie, the water felt good after a long, hot park day!”
Others, however, were not as thrilled by the disruption. @kidcarbonx recalled, “Mickey didn’t do his ending so my friends were like… that’s it?”
It appears that the issue was resolved quickly. Walt Disney World Resort typically refrains from publicly commenting on minor technical problems, and this instance was no different. However, it seems that Fantasmic! has resumed its regular performances since the incident. While the cause of the malfunction remains unclear, it appears that this was simply a temporary blip in an otherwise iconic show.
