Ryan Reynolds has become inseparable from his portrayal of Deadpool, Marvel’s foul-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking anti-hero. However, the actor’s future in the iconic role is now uncertain, even after the resounding success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
The film, which paired Reynolds with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, shattered box office expectations, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Fans and critics praised the film, calling it a much-needed win for Marvel Studios and Disney after a series of missteps across films and Disney+ streaming.
But despite its success, Reynolds recently hinted that his days in the Deadpool suit might be over. Speaking to Collider in August, he admitted, “I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again. I hope I do — but I don’t know.” The uncertainty has left fans speculating about the franchise’s future.

While Reynolds’ Deadpool future hangs in the balance, the actor is moving forward with other superhero-related ventures. Variety has now reported that Paramount Animation has tapped Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, to lead a reboot of the classic cartoon Mighty Mouse. The project will pair Reynolds with Free Guy collaborator Matt Lieberman, promising a fresh, big-screen take on the 1940s cult favorite.
Interestingly, Reynolds seems to have a newfound fascination with animated rodents, as Maximum Effort is also overseeing a reboot of Biker Mice From Mars, a beloved Saturday morning cartoon about anthropomorphic biker mice. With both projects, Reynolds appears to be carving out a unique niche in the world of animated superhero stories.

Where Else Can I Watch Deadpool & Wolverine?
As for Deadpool fans, there’s some consolation. Deadpool & Wolverine is now available to stream on Disney+, allowing viewers to relive the chaotic humor and action that made the film a global hit.
The movie boasts an all-star cast, including Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Jennifer Garner, alongside Marvel veterans like Wesley Snipes as Blade and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Will Reynolds eventually return to the role that made him a household name? Or will his focus shift entirely to new projects like Mighty Mouse? Fans remain divided, with some eager to see more Deadpool antics and others curious about what Reynolds can bring to other superhero properties.
