It is no secret that Disney rides and attractions go through a ton of wear and tear on a daily basis. Thousands of Guests experience every single one, every single day, and that means that routine maintenance is necessary. Disney plans everything very meticulously, and that includes when its rides will be down for refurbishment. Of course, sometimes there are cases where the ride or attraction must close unexpectedly, but, most of the time, the closures are scheduled and Disney lets Guests know ahead of time.
If you plan on visiting Disneyland Resort next month, it is important to note that one of the most popular children’s rides will be closed for an extensive refurbishment. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue at Disney California Adventure Park will be closed beginning August 15. At this time, the closure is indefinite and Disney has not shared when the ride will reopen.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue is located in the Hollywood Land area of the theme park, right near Mickey’s PhilharMagic. The ride has been open since 2006 and is incredibly popular with younger Pixar fans. The ride takes you straight into Monstropolis, where you can see not only Mike and Sulley, but also Roz, Randall, Celia, Boo, and more! Here is more information on the ride from the Disneyland Resort website:
Escape from Monstropolis!
Venture inside the Monstropolis Transit Terminal and hail a taxi cab for a tour of the town. As your journey begins, an emergency “special report” is unexpectedly broadcast inside your cab—a human child is loose in Monstropolis and must be caught!
Help friendly monsters Mike and Sulley as they race to return little girl Boo safely to her home.
Can she find the way back before it’s too late?
As previously stated, Disney only says that the ride will close on August 15 and does not say when it will reopen. Typically, Disney tries to give that information, but if the refurbishment is extensive, they may not know just how long it will take. At Walt Disney World, Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom was closed for months and Disney gave an approximate reopening date, but they were unable to stick by it. Disney may not want to give Guests a date that they cannot stick to.
Disney Dining will keep readers updated if and when Disney shares a reopening date.
