A police officer recently faced consequences for indulging in a universal fantasy: skipping work to go to a Disney park.
While many may dream of ditching work, one officer took the leap, opting to forgo his scheduled shift on October 1 in favor of a Disney park adventure.
According to Kobe NP, his absence raised alarms among his superiors, who tracked his location via GPS. They discovered he was hundreds of miles away from his post in Kobe City, enjoying the magic of a Disney park.
The following day, officers found him leaving a hotel near Tokyo Disney Resort with his girlfriend. His unapproved excursion did not go unnoticed. The officer faced disciplinary action but ultimately chose to resign from his position.
Reports reveal the officer had grown dissatisfied with his job, partly due to financial advice from coworkers. Burdened by debts of roughly 4 million yen (about $25,800 USD), accumulated through shopping and hobbies like golf and snowboarding, he had been contemplating quitting. His unorthodox solution? A Disney trip that would ensure his dismissal.
Tokyo Disneyland, known for its exclusive attractions such as Pooh’s Hunny Hunt and Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, might tempt anyone seeking an escape. However, using it as a resignation strategy likely isn’t the wisest career move.
For those considering a Disney getaway to unwind, proper planning—and employer permission—is highly recommended. Tokyo Disneyland remains a top destination, currently undergoing exciting changes. The park recently closed Space Mountain to prepare for a reimagined version and will debut its first Wreck-It Ralph (2012)-themed attraction in 2026, replacing Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, as part of a wider Tomorrowland transformation.
Tokyo Disney Resort’s affordability, boosted by the weak yen, has also drawn a surge in international visitors. With tickets priced between $51 and $70 per day—far less than Disney World’s $119 to $189 range—it’s a tempting option for many. However, skipping work to experience it may not be the ideal approach.
Confession time: have you ever skipped work for Disney?
