New ‘Jurassic Park’ Sequel Finally Brings Back an Original Character After 33 Years

The upcoming game Jurassic Park: Survival promises players a “fully realized Isla Nublar” featuring iconic locations from the 1993 film alongside areas that audiences have never seen before. But one of the game’s biggest surprises may have nothing to do with dinosaurs at all.

Developed by Saber Interactive, the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel was officially revealed during The Game Awards in December 2023 and follows InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi as she navigates the island in the immediate aftermath of Jurassic Park.

Since then, Saber has slowly pulled back the curtain on the project. IGN‘s July 2024 exclusive Q&A offered the first substantial gameplay details, while a behind-the-scenes featurette released by Universal and Saber last summer focused heavily on Spielberg’s original movie, the game’s dinosaur models, environmental design, and the performance of actress Payal Mistry, who plays Maya. And it may also have revealed the return of Lewis Dodgson.

Among the various pieces of concept art shown throughout the video is an image of dinosaurs stampeding through what appears to be a village settlement somewhere on Isla Nublar. In the lower-left corner, Maya appears to be hiding beside a man who strongly resembles Dodgson, the Biosyn executive originally played by Cameron Thor in Jurassic Park (1993) before later returning in Jurassic World Dominion (2022) with Campbell Scott taking over the role.

For longtime Jurassic fans, that possibility immediately raises some interesting questions.

The official website for Jurassic Park: Survival states that players will encounter “other surprising threats” beyond dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, and Dilophosaurus, while storyboards seen in the featurette confirm the appearance of additional human characters throughout the game.

Dodgson has existed at the center of the Jurassic Park franchise from the very beginning, appearing in both Michael Crichton’s novels Jurassic Park (1990) and later The Lost World (1995) before later showing up in Netflix’s Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (2020–2022) and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024–2025), where Adam Harrington voiced the character.

Jurassic Park: Survival Is Coming Soon

The official synopsis for the game states:

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making. Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”

The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
