Disney has announced the official merger of Disney+ and Hulu. During this morning’s earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Hulu will officially cease operations in 2026 and be integrated within Disney+.

This shift follows Disney’s acquisition of Hulu and the decision to merge its content into the Disney+ platform. The integration promises that all Hulu programming will soon be available through Disney+, making it a central hub for streaming content.

With the upcoming merger, Disney+ users can expect a more unified app experience. The integration of Hulu’s content is set to dramatically change the interface and how viewers navigate through the available programming.

Moreover, implications for accessing Hulu’s popular favorites will likely include the addition of more mature content, which has been a hallmark of Hulu. For many Disney+ subscribers, this could mean expanded access to a varied landscape of shows, films, and original content that were previously exclusive to Hulu. From comedies and dramas to documentaries and thrillers, the updated Disney+ could cater to an even broader audience.

The merger reflects Disney’s strategic goals to enhance the value proposition of Disney+. As the streaming war continues to heat up, having a robust library filled with diverse content becomes crucial in attracting and retaining subscribers. By integrating Hulu, Disney+ can leverage an extensive array of programming, combining family-friendly classics with more adult-oriented series.

This merger also serves to strengthen Disney’s competitive positioning in the rapidly evolving streaming market. While Disney+ already boasts a vast library rich in nostalgia and blockbuster franchises, combining Hulu’s offerings will allow the platform to compete more effectively with rivals like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Disney’s expansive content library, bolstered by Hulu, solidifies its stance as a leading entertainment destination for viewers of all ages.
