New Attraction Officially Touches Down at Disney Park, Expansion in Motion
As Disneyland Resort celebrates its 70th anniversary, the spirit of Walt Disney’s original vision remains alive — the park is never truly complete. That philosophy is on full display at Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus, where heroes assemble daily and Imagineers are preparing for its most ambitious expansion yet.
Earlier this week, Walt Disney Imagineering shared an exciting milestone on Instagram: “Equipping more guests to become Super Heroes requires equipment! The expansion of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park went vertical this morning with the first steel column lifted into place. New, thrilling attractions will join the campus, doubling its size in the future.”
This transformation includes two major new experiences. First, Avengers Infinity Defense will send guests on a “multi-world adventure experience” as described by Disney Parks Blog: “Technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds has gone missing, and King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc everywhere. Recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside the likes of big, and small, heroes. You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too.”
The second addition, Stark Flight Lab, will mark Robert Downey Jr.’s highly anticipated return as Iron Man. Disney Parks Blog teases, “If you’re up for another mission, Tony Stark has one for you. And you know Tony, he always wants to try something new and exciting, and it’s going to make you feel like a Super Hero yourself. With the just announced Stark Flight Lab, you’re going to sit in two-person pods and deploy to a test station. Then a robot arm grabs your pod and starts whirling you around in a simulated flight.”
Downey Jr.’s comeback is doubly notable as he also steps into his second Marvel Cinematic Universe role — Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom–in Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
Avengers Campus first welcomed guests on June 4, 2021, transforming the area once known as A Bug’s Land into a dynamic space where superheroes train recruits of all ages. The land offers Marvel fans the chance to live their own adventure, complete with high-energy attractions, character encounters, and themed dining.
Guests can take on Peter Parker’s web-slinging challenge in WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, or join Rocket Raccoon on the gravity-defying escape mission in Guardians of the Galaxy–Mission: BREAKOUT! For those drawn to the mystical, the Ancient Sanctum invites guests to learn from Doctor Strange himself. At the Avengers Headquarters, a Quinjet looms overhead while heroes like the Dora Milaje, Captain America, and Thor make surprise appearances.
Dining in Avengers Campus adds its own playful twist. Pym Test Kitchen uses Pym Particles to create oversized and miniature comfort food favorites, while Shawarma Palace serves the same wraps enjoyed by the Avengers after saving New York. Terran Treats rounds it out with churros and cosmic-inspired desserts.
The land also features a constantly changing lineup of characters–from Iron Man in his Mark 80 armor to Ant-Man, The Wasp, Loki, and even Deadpool, who made his first-ever Disney parks appearance last year as the Resort’s first R-rated Marvel character.
With Avengers Campus set to double in size thanks to Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, Marvel storytelling at Disneyland Resort is about to reach a whole new scale. The expansion was spotlighted at last year’s D23 Expo alongside announcements for new Marvel experiences in Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.
From Wakanda to Asgard and beyond, the next era of Avengers Campus is taking shape–proving once again that the adventure is only getting started.
