Muppet*Vision Sign Covered, Gonzo Removed

For decades, the sign welcomed guests into the theater, one of the final projects Jim Henson worked on before his passing, and it has now been covered by construction crews. Equally noticeable, the hanging Gonzo, a playful touch that embodied the Muppets’ offbeat humor, had been a popular photo spot for families and fans alike, and has been removed from the courtyard’s clock. Both changes signal that Disney is moving full speed ahead with its plans to repurpose the area, leaving little of the original Muppet theming intact.
While PizzaRizzo’s sign still marks the quick-service restaurant, its future seems increasingly uncertain. With the rest of the Muppet theming already dismantled, it is increasingly likely that PizzaRizzo will also be rethemed or demolished in the near future. Fans of the tongue-in-cheek décor and playful nods to Muppet history may want to stop by for one last visit before the restaurant’s days come to an end.
