Muppet*Vision Sign Covered as Disney Prepares Monsters Inc. Expansion

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is seeing one of its most visible transformations in recent years. What was once a lively corner celebrating Jim Henson’s iconic characters is now giving way to a brand-new land based on the Monsters Inc. franchise.

Muppet*Vision Sign Covered, Gonzo Removed

The most recent development highlights just how far the demolition has progressed. For decades, the sign welcomed guests into the theater, one of the final projects Jim Henson worked on before his passing, and it has now been covered by construction crews. Equally noticeable, the hanging Gonzo, a playful touch that embodied the Muppets’ offbeat humor, had been a popular photo spot for families and fans alike, and has been removed from the courtyard’s clock. Both changes signal that Disney is moving full speed ahead with its plans to repurpose the area, leaving little of the original Muppet theming intact.

While PizzaRizzo’s sign still marks the quick-service restaurant, its future seems increasingly uncertain. With the rest of the Muppet theming already dismantled, it is increasingly likely that PizzaRizzo will also be rethemed or demolished in the near future. Fans of the tongue-in-cheek décor and playful nods to Muppet history may want to stop by for one last visit before the restaurant’s days come to an end.

From Muppets to Monsters

Earlier this year, Disney closed Muppets Courtyard as part of a broader strategy to bring more Pixar experiences into its parks. The new Monsters Inc. land is expected to include immersive attractions, themed dining, and interactive experiences inspired by Monstropolis. While a detailed timeline has not been shared, the ongoing demolition and signage updates make it clear that this expansion is officially underway.

For longtime Disney fans, the disappearance of Muppets Courtyard is bittersweet. The area had been a Hollywood Studios staple since the 1990s, with Muppet*Vision 3D serving as both an homage to Jim Henson’s creative genius and a showcase for the Muppets’ signature humor. As Disney pivots toward Pixar properties like Monsters Inc., it demonstrates the company’s commitment to evolving its parks while keeping the spirit of past favorites alive.

Though the Muppets’ presence is diminishing, their legacy remains an important part of Disney’s history, and anticipation is already building for the immersive experiences that await in the new Monsters Inc. land.
