Muppet*Vision 3D Is Closing—But Not Before This Special Viewing Happens

As the sun begins to set on another beloved Disney Parks attraction, fans around the world are preparing to say goodbye. Over the years, guests have watched as nostalgic rides, shows, and experiences were retired in favor of new stories, updated technology, or refreshed theming.

While change is an essential part of Disney’s evolution, the loss of a classic offering always comes with a tinge of sadness.

Muppet*Vision 3D has long held a special place in the hearts of Disney fans. Created by Jim Henson and debuted posthumously, the show became a fitting tribute to the creator’s vision. Full of slapstick humor, classic Muppet chaos, and clever 3D effects, Muppet*Vision 3D is one of the few remaining pieces of original Muppets content still operating in the parks.

The attraction first opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1991 and quickly gained a following for its faithful Muppet style and spirit. While the show eventually closed at Disney California Adventure in 2014, the Florida version remained, standing as a kind of time capsule for a generation of fans who grew up with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and the rest of the gang.

In August 2024, however, Disney officially confirmed that Muppet*Vision 3D at Walt Disney World would be permanently closing to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) experience. Reactions have been emotional, with many longtime parkgoers mourning the end of an era.

The final show for regular Guests was scheduled for June 7, 2025. But as it turns out, one special group will get a chance to enjoy the attraction one last time.

According to a tweet from journalist Scott Gustin, Disney cast members will be the final audience for Muppet*Vision 3D:

NEW: Cast Members at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive celebration on June 10 in the Grand Avenue area. As part of the event, Cast Members will be the last people to experience Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo before construction starts.

This private farewell for Cast Members serves as a small but meaningful gesture from the company, honoring the team that keeps the magic alive every day. For many of them, Muppet*Vision 3D represents not only a part of the park’s history but also a piece of their own Disney journey.

The new Monsters, Inc. area will include a suspended roller coaster that transports guests through the factory where Mike and Sulley work, culminating in a ride through the vault filled with children’s doors used by the monsters.

Additional attractions, along with shopping and dining options, have yet to be announced as the opening of the new land draws nearer.

Although MuppetVision 3D may be closing for good, that doesn’t mean The Muppets are leaving Walt Disney World entirely. Just three months after announcing the removal of Muppets Courtyard, Disney revealed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be reimagined — this time starring the iconic Muppet band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

Disney has shared that Dr. Teeth will join forces with some well-known bands to headline a “rockin’ music festival.” However, no timeline has been announced for when the transformation will begin or when the updated attraction will debut.

Will you be able to catch Muppet*Vision 3D before it closes? What do you hope Disney introduces in its place? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and stay tuned to Disney Dining for the latest updates on Disney Parks attractions, retirements, and what’s coming next.
