Rumors Swirl Around Potential Moana Expansion in Disney Theme Parks

Moana 2 Breaks Box Office Records

Moana 2 has made a spectacular splash at the box office, setting records that have left many in the industry in awe. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the film raked in over $225 million, smashing previous records held by the beloved Frozen 2. This impressive financial performance positions Moana 2 on a solid path to join the billion-dollar club, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which grossed $643 million.

The Moana franchise is poised to generate over $1.7 billion, especially with a live-action adaptation set to debut in 2025. With Moana now emerging as Disney’s third highest-grossing franchise, right behind Toy Story and Frozen, the buzz surrounding potential expansions of Moana-related attractions at Walt Disney World is growing ever louder.

Current State of Moana in Disney Parks

Despite the franchise’s extraordinary box office success, Moana’s presence within Disney Parks remains oddly modest. The only dedicated attraction is the “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” at EPCOT. In stark contrast, franchises like Toy Story and Frozen boast expansive themed lands across multiple Disney locations worldwide.

Fans and Disney enthusiasts alike are voicing their disappointment over Moana’s limited offerings in the parks. With other beloved franchises receiving significant attention and dedicated spaces, many are left wondering when Moana will receive the same level of focus and investment.

Rumored Moana Expansion Opportunities

Insider whispers are circulating, suggesting that Disney executives are actively considering expanding Moana’s presence within its theme parks. Speculation mounts around potential locations for new attractions, including Adventureland in Magic Kingdom or the expansive spaces available at Animal Kingdom.

These locations could allow for thematic rides incorporating elements of Moana’s adventurous spirit. With Disney committing a staggering $17 billion to park enhancements over the next decade, the possibility for new Moana-themed offerings could soon become a reality.

However, fans of existing attractions, particularly the beloved Jungle Cruise in Adventureland, could oppose the move to increase Moana’s park presence. Nonetheless, the open space at Animal Kingdom presents a compelling opportunity for a fully immersive South Pacific-themed area, potentially featuring a Moana water ride or a thrilling Maui roller coaster—concepts that are already stirring excitement among Disney fans.

Future Attraction Ideas and Concepts

The prospect of new Moana attractions has ignited the imaginations of Disney fans, who envision a South Pacific-themed land that could deliver interactive storytelling experiences and a variety of exhilarating attractions. Ideas include character meet-and-greet opportunities with Moana, immersive water rides, and cultural experiences that honor the rich heritage depicted in the film. This balanced approach could allow Disney to provide thrilling attractions while staying true to the franchise’s cultural significance.

As the parks evolve, balancing the nostalgic appeal of existing attractions with innovative new experiences will be crucial. Disney has a storied history of integrating fresh ideas while respecting beloved classics, ensuring that fans old and new feel welcome amidst the magic of expansion.

In conclusion, with Moana 2’s remarkable success fueling interest in the franchise, rumors about potential expansion at Walt Disney World suggest that fans may soon see more of their favorite characters in the parks. As speculation continues and Disney gears up for future projects, the Moana brand stands poised for a significant and deserved spotlight in the Disney universe.

  1. The most recent conversation was about a Moana attraction behind Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom. Since Tiana already exists in that park it would be a rollercoaster.
