“This is the first time people will experience Mickey Mouse in this way.”
While some people feel that this addition is awesome, many other fans are certainly raising their eyebrows over this unique kind of merchandise.
Cryptoys: A New Way to Play
The company behind this collaboration is Cryptoys, which is a “non-fungible token (NFT)-native digital toy company.” Cryptoys is a revolutionary new frontier for toys; the company allows fans to collect and play with these 3D digital toys in a virtual world.
In the past, Cryptoys collaborated with Disney on their Star Wars: Volume I Wave I collection. The collection included characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker. The 3D designs of these characters help bring them to life for fans of the film.

Now, Mickey Mouse and some of his best pals are getting featured in a collection of their own. Crytoys describes the collection, saying;

And we’ve saved the best part for last – you can earn a super-special Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Cryptoy if you collect them all. Stay tuned…”

A New Frontier for Disney
The reality is that this is quite a shocking new endeavor for Disney. In the past, Disney has gained a reputation for providing quality, tangible merchandise. Things like stuffed animals, pins, and Mickey Mouse headbands are huge parts of Disney’s identity. Disney entering the virtual toy industry is certainly going to be an adjustment for some fans.
Currently, there is no concrete release date for the new Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Pluto Cryptoys. The collection will be priced at $40, similar to the previous Cryptoys collections. While this certainly isn’t for everyone, it is clear that there is a market for toys like this!
