MCU Could Be Replaced by Another Superhero Franchise, Across Film, TV, and Disney Parks
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, once the crown jewel of Disney’s entertainment empire, has faced a challenging stretch in recent years.
The MCU’s Fall From Grace
Following the conclusion of “The Infinity Saga” with the epic crossover event Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Disney+ Marvel shows, such as Secret Invasion and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, have struggled to capture the same level of success and fan enthusiasm. Some MCU films also fell short of expectations, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels in particular, also failing to perform well commercially at the box office.
Now, with upcoming projects like Avengers: Doomsday carrying high stakes, Disney and Marvel are under pressure to sustain their superhero dominance across film and TV.

Could Another Superhero Franchise Take Its Place?
Doomsday boasts a huge cast that includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Robert Downey Jr. (Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom), as well as several returning actors from Fox’s X-Men movies.
But if the film fails to perform well, what could this mean for the future of the MCU?
Enter Power Rangers. A new reboot was recently confirmed for Disney+, with Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz—Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners—leading the project. While a single series is unlikely to rival the MCU, the franchise’s iconic status and proven fanbase make it a strong candidate to diversify Disney’s superhero offerings.
If Doomsday does indeed struggle to reignite interest and become a box office win, Disney could look to the Power Rangers as a reliable, multi-platform IP.

Marvel and Power Rangers Could Coexist
But even if Doomsday succeeds, a successful Power Rangers reboot could still lead to a wide range of opportunities: a cinematic universe featuring the Rangers, a full slate of merchandise, television spin-offs, and, crucially, a renewed presence in Disney Parks.
The franchise already has history in the parks, and a new series could justify new attractions, immersive experiences, and interactive rides. With all that said, it’s worth remembering that the IP is currently owned by Hasbro, which would complicate matters.

Power Rangers Could Return to Disney Parks
Either way, unlike the MCU, which relies on interwoven storylines and crossover events, Power Rangers offers flexibility. Disney could capitalize on nostalgia for ’90s fans while appealing to a new generation.
From a Disney Parks standpoint, the possibilities are also big: stunt shows, interactive ride experiences, parades, or dedicated lands that bring the morphing heroes to life.
With the MCU facing uncertainty, Power Rangers represents a compelling backup plan for Disney—a proven superhero brand with room to grow across multiple platforms. If the reboot resonates with audiences, the Rangers could return not only to screens but to the parks, once again standing alongside Disney’s most recognizable icons.
