Major Policy Shift: Universal Confirms Restrictions for Mario Kart and Stardust Racers This Summer

Universal Orlando Resort is heading into a summer that feels a little different this time around. As Epic Universe prepares for its busiest stretch yet, new guest policies are starting to take shape—quietly but noticeably. These updates may not jump out at first, but they’re already beginning to influence how visitors plan their days inside the park.

There’s a bigger picture here, too. Epic Universe isn’t just dealing with crowds—it’s adapting to them. With attendance expected to climb throughout the summer, Universal is making adjustments that could change how guests experience some of its most popular attractions.

A Park Still Riding the Newness Wave

Epic Universe hasn’t had much time to settle in, and that’s part of the challenge. As the newest theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, it’s pulling in massive crowds from every direction. Fans want to see everything, and first-time visitors are making it a priority stop.

Summer only amplifies that demand. When school is out and travel picks up, the park fills quickly, and every major land starts to feel the pressure.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, and the Isle of Berk all bring their own draw, and moving between them feels like part of the experience itself. But with that popularity comes longer waits and tighter spaces, forcing Universal to rethink how guests move through the park.

Early Entry No Longer Helps at Stardust Racers

Stardust Racers quickly became one of the must-do attractions in Epic Universe. The dual-launch coaster delivers speed, airtime, and a ride experience that stands out both day and night.

That popularity made it a top target for early park entry—until that advantage disappeared.

Universal previously allowed hotel guests to ride during the early-entry window, but that option went away back in February. Now, everyone enters the same race when the park officially opens.

This shift changes how guests approach the ride. Without that early access, wait times build faster, especially in the morning. Guests who planned to knock it out early will now need to rethink their strategy and adjust their timing.

Getting Into SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Isn’t Guaranteed

While Stardust Racers is about timing, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is becoming more about access.

The land continues to draw huge crowds thanks to its immersive design and the Mario Kart attraction. To manage that demand, Universal has started using Virtual Line reservations on especially busy days.

Without a reservation, guests may not be able to enter the land right away. Team Members can direct visitors to secure a return time before stepping through the portal when capacity fills up.

That possibility adds a new layer of planning. Guests now need to think beyond just ride wait times—they need to plan how and when they’ll even get inside.

Smart Strategies Can Still Save Your Day

Even with these changes, a little planning goes a long way.

For SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, checking the Universal app early is key. Virtual Line spots can fill quickly, so staying alert gives you a better shot at securing a time. If you miss out, keep checking—availability can shift throughout the day.

For Stardust Racers, timing matters more than ever. Your best bet is to head there right at park opening, try during lunch hours, or wait until the final hour before closing.

These windows can help you avoid the longest waits, even during peak summer crowds.

A Shift in How Guests Experience the Park

Epic Universe is quickly showing how modern theme parks adapt to demand. Limiting access to certain areas and removing early-entry perks are just the beginning.

For guests, this means one thing: planning matters more than ever. Showing up without a strategy isn’t as easy as it used to be.

But if you know what to expect and adjust your approach, you can still have a great visit. These changes aren’t just temporary—they’re shaping how Epic Universe operates during its biggest season yet.
