Walt Disney World Removes 50th Anniversary Decor from Cinderella Castle

The Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida has recently begun removing the 50th-anniversary decorations from Cinderella Castle. The removal process comes after a lengthy celebration of the Park’s 50th anniversary.

The celebration began on October 1, 2021, which marked the 50th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom Park’s opening. The anniversary event included unique merchandise, food, and beverage offerings. Many Park Guests were thrilled with the 50th-anniversary decorations throughout the Park, specifically those on Cinderella Castle. The Castle’s decor included a gorgeous 50th emblem and striking gold ribbons on the exterior turrets. The decorations were visible from Main Street, U.S.A., and enhanced the magical experience for Guests walking into the Park.

Despite the popularity of the decorations, the Walt Disney Company made the decision to remove the 50th-anniversary decorations. They did this to make way for the Disney 100 celebration, which honors 100 years of the Walt Disney Company.

Goodbye 50th Anniversary, Hello Disney 100

Today, on March 11, 2023, Cinderella Castle debuted a new look after another round of decor removal took place. Cast Members have removed the ribbons from two center turrets on the castle’s exterior.

Upon closer inspection, you can see that the turrets have suffered some sun damage from where the ribbons used to be. Disney may likely repaint them to hide the wear and tear.

Some Guests are very sad the see the 50th decorations leave the Parks. The castle did look truly beautiful during this time. Others, however, are thrilled to see that Castle be updated this way. Walt Disney World’s parks are consistently evolving and updating with new attractions and entertainment. Removing the 50th anniversary decorations from Cinderella Castle is simply part of the Park’s ongoing evolution and commitment to providing a unique Disney experience for visitors.
