There’s a version of Walt Disney World’s business strategy playing out this Thanksgiving that longtime visitors will recognize instantly: fewer surprises about crowd size, more questions about cost.
The resort heads into the 2026 holiday stretch fresh off a strong earnings report. Disney’s Experiences division, which covers its parks and cruise business, keeps setting revenue records, and it’s doing so without needing huge jumps in attendance to get there. The company’s fiscal third quarter showed global guest numbers, spanning both park visitors and Disney Cruise Line passengers, up 4% compared to the year before, with Walt Disney World leading that growth.
Domestic park attendance rose a comparatively modest 3% in that quarter, but spending per guest jumped 4%, and total revenue landed at $9.97 billion despite international visitation staying soft. CEO Josh D’Amaro summed up the international piece of that picture in the company’s quarterly comments: “We continued to face headwinds from international attendance at our domestic parks, but as expected, those headwinds moderated relative to the year-over-year impact observed in fiscal Q2.”
In plain terms, Disney is making more money per visitor, and Thanksgiving week could be the clearest demonstration yet of how far that model can stretch. Walt Disney World is already one of the most in-demand holiday destinations in the country, and this year’s newly published hours for November 22 through 28, 2026, give travelers something concrete to plan around, alongside a heads-up that skipping the standby lines could carry a steep price tag.
Magic Kingdom deserves the closest attention on the calendar. Guests get a full day, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Sunday the 22nd, Monday the 23rd, Thanksgiving Day itself on the 26th, and Saturday the 28th. But Tuesday the 24th, Wednesday the 25th, and Friday the 27th look different: the park shuts its doors to regular daytime guests at 6 p.m. so it can transition into Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which kicks off at 7 p.m. Anyone without a party ticket needs to be on their way out by that early closing.
Disney Resort hotel guests currently have Early Entry access starting at 8:30 a.m. each morning that week, a window that becomes especially valuable given how the rest of the schedule shakes out. There’s also a decent chance those hours shift before Thanksgiving actually arrives. Disney recently extended Early Entry and lengthened hours on non-event nights during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and something similar could happen here. For now, though, nothing beyond the initial schedule has been made official.
Guests hopping between parks will find a calmer picture elsewhere on property. EPCOT keeps things simple with 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. hours every day of the week, plus Extended Evening Theme Park Entry from 9 to 11 p.m. on November 23. Hollywood Studios mostly mirrors that 9-to-9 schedule, apart from two nights, November 23 and 28, when Disney Jollywood Nights bumps closing time up to 7 p.m. Animal Kingdom stays consistent at 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. across the board, with one Extended Evening Theme Park Entry date on November 24.
Then there’s the part of the trip that tends to catch visitors off guard: Lightning Lane. Because Disney prices these skip-the-line passes dynamically based on demand, and Thanksgiving is about as high-demand as it gets, several products are likely to land at or near their ceiling prices for the year. Magic Kingdom’s all-attraction Lightning Lane Premier Pass has already touched $449 per person on select 2026 dates, including Spring Break, and that same figure is expected to carry into Thanksgiving week, a $20 bump from last year’s $429 rate.
The individual attraction passes tell a similar story. EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Hollywood Studios’ Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance both remain available through Lightning Lane Single Pass, and as two of the most sought-after rides on property, they’re expected to push toward the higher end of their pricing during the holiday surge. Disney hasn’t released the actual Thanksgiving 2026 numbers yet, so travelers budgeting for the trip are working with educated estimates for now.
It’s not just wallets that will feel the squeeze this year. Fewer parks are absorbing all that holiday traffic. Since reopening after pandemic-era shutdowns, Disney has moved away from running just one water park at a time. In both 2025 and 2026, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park operated simultaneously from mid-May into September, with Blizzard Beach remaining open as Typhoon Lagoon closed on September 9.
Ongoing construction adds another layer for Thanksgiving travelers to navigate. Magic Kingdom is in the middle of work tied to Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, Hollywood Studios is under construction for Monstropolis, and Animal Kingdom has refurbishment underway connected to the Tropical Americas. Disney has indicated these projects will stretch into 2027 and 2028, with 2031 shaping up as a potentially transformative year for the resort.
The bottom line for anyone booking a Thanksgiving trip: keep an eye on both the operating hours and the Lightning Lane prices in the weeks ahead. Hours could still expand, as they often do closer to major holidays, but the three early Magic Kingdom closures tied to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are already set. And if past peak periods are any indication, guests chasing shorter lines this Thanksgiving may end up paying some of the steepest Lightning Lane prices Disney World has ever offered.
