Disney Lorcana just turned two, and to celebrate, it showed up in style at Gen Con 2025, the biggest tabletop gaming convention in North America.
Held each year in Indianapolis, Gen Con is a massive four-day event where fans of card games, board games, role-playing, and all things geeky come together to preview upcoming releases, play, trade, and connect with creators.
Lorcana was a major highlight this year, and whether you’re into competitive play or just here for the gorgeous collectibles, there was something magical for everyone.
New Ways to Experience Lorcana
While players got a glimpse at new sets and card mechanics (more on that in a sec), what really wowed collectors was the announcement of Disney Lorcana puzzles, arriving this fall from Ravensburger. These 1,000-piece puzzles feature the same stunning art as the cards and are themed to each of Lorcana’s magical inks: Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel.
Two of the most anticipated designs, Amethyst and Steel, will be available exclusively at select Disney stores in the U.S. starting August 29. The full collection goes global on September 1, and each puzzle comes with a special promo card: Mickey Mouse – True Friend. It’s the perfect way to start (or expand) your collection while enjoying some cozy puzzle time.
Lorcana Turns Two and It’s Stronger Than Ever
It’s hard to believe Disney Lorcana only launched in 2023. Since then, it’s become one of the fastest-growing trading card games in the world, with fans drawn to its mix of familiar characters and original storytelling. In Lorcana, players become Illumineers, using magical inks to summon reimagined “Glimmers” of beloved Disney characters. Each ink, like Amethyst for the mystical or Steel for the strong, shapes the character’s powers and art style.
Whether you’re into playing the game or just love collecting cards and admiring the art, there’s room for everyone in this fandom. Disney’s unique storytelling combined with Ravensburger’s world-class design has made Lorcana more than just a card game; it’s an experience.
And Yes, New Cards Are Coming Too!
For those who do love the gameplay, Lorcana’s Fabled expansion arrives August 25 (in local shops) and September 5 (everywhere else). This set includes gorgeous new Iconic and Epic rarity cards, with characters from A Goofy Movie, Dumbo, and Mickey & Minnie that collectors will definitely want to display. Plus, more expansions are already on the way, including Whispers in the Well (with Judy Hopps joining the action), Winterspell (starring Stitch and Angel), and even Toy Story cards coming in 2026.
