According to a translation of a Dec. 30 press release from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, three people — two of whom are employees of CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires where Payne died on Oct. 16 — have been charged with manslaughter. The BBC identifies those individuals as hotel manager Gilda Martin, hotel receptionist Esteban Grassi, and Payne’s friend Roger Nores.

Three of the individuals charged — hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi, and Payne’s friend Roger Nores — are accused of manslaughter. According to a press release from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, Martin and Grassi allegedly failed to ensure Payne’s safety, allowing him to return to his room despite being visibly intoxicated.
Nores, who was reportedly with Payne at the time of his death, has been charged with neglecting his “duties of care, assistance, and help.” Prosecutors allege that Nores abandoned Payne despite being aware of his struggles with substance abuse and erratic behavior.

Two additional individuals—Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz—are facing more severe charges related to drug trafficking.
Both are accused of supplying Payne with cocaine on multiple occasions in the days leading up to his death. Pereyra, an employee at the CasaSur Hotel, allegedly sold cocaine to Payne on October 15 and 16, while Paiz, a waiter, is accused of supplying the drug twice on October 14.
If convicted, Martin, Grassi, and Nores face sentences ranging from one to five years in prison. Pereyra and Paiz, however, could receive sentences of four to fifteen years due to the severity of the charges.
