‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Takes Over Fourth of July Box Office
The dinosaurs have returned—and they’re making more noise than expected.
Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) kicks off a new chapter in Universal’s long-standing franchise, shifting focus back to the prehistoric predators that made the original Jurassic Park a cultural phenomenon. Directed by Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards and written by original franchise scribe David Koepp, the film aims to reboot the series with a mix of nostalgia and adrenaline-pumping spectacle.
Front and center is Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, who spearheads a mission to recover rare strands of dinosaur DNA from an isolated island while humanity continues to grapple with a world where dinosaurs roam freely. She’s joined by Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, and Manuel García-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado.
Critics have been divided—some argue the characters lack depth, while others praise the jaw-dropping dinosaur action sequences. Meanwhile, general audiences appear more impressed, and Alexandre Desplat’s reinterpretation of John Williams’ legendary score hasn’t gone unnoticed.
This film follows in the footsteps of its predecessors: Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
Box Office Watch: Jurassic World Rebirth Off to a Strong Start
Even with lukewarm critical reception—sitting at 51% on Rotten Tomatoes—the film’s 72% audience score and strong opening numbers hint at another financial win for Universal over the July 4 holiday frame.
“Universal and Amblin‘s Jurassic World Rebirth came in higher on Thursday then what we spotted, a very good sign, with $25.3M, -17% off from its opening day,” Deadline reported. “The revised outlook is now $137.5M over five days, $81.7M over 3-days at 4,063 theaters.”
Going head-to-head with current releases like F1 (2025), How To Train Your Dragon (2025), Elio (2025), and M3GAN 2.0 (2025), the latest Jurassic film may prove that audiences still have a strong appetite for dinosaur-driven spectacle.
