‘Jurassic Park’ Set To Roar Onto the London Stage for the First Time

Get ready to hold on to your butts—literally!

Fans of Jurassic Park are in for a wild ride this holiday season as the hit parody stage play, Hold On To Your Butts, heads to London’s West End. If you’ve ever dreamed of reliving the iconic moments from Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster but with a hilarious, no-frills twist, this show is for you.

Following a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Hold On To Your Butts is bringing its unique brand of laugh-out-loud humor to the Arcola Theater for a limited engagement from December 10, 2024, to January 4, 2025. Created by New York-based comedy troupe Recent Cutbacks, this show reimagines Jurassic Park with just two actors and a live Foley artist, creating all the sound effects on the spot.

The title, of course, comes from Samuel L. Jackson’s famous line in the original film, and if that doesn’t already have you chuckling, wait until you see how they re-enact giant dinosaurs with little more than their own energy. Jack Baldwin and Laurence Pears are the stars behind this comedic “shot-for-shot” parody, with Foley artist Charlie Ives providing the sound magic. Forget CGI and animatronics—this is all about creativity and good old-fashioned fun.

According to producers Sally Cade Holmes and Heather Shields, the show is all about celebrating imagination and theater at its most stripped-down. In a statement to WhatsOnStage, they described the play as “laugh-out-loud hilarious” and a reinvention of a classic that delivers “pure joy” to audiences.

But don’t expect to see any actual dinosaurs on stage—this parody is all about the charm of lo-fi theater. Instead of high-tech effects, you’ll witness hilarious re-enactments of Jurassic Park’s most iconic scenes, complete with clever physical comedy, creative prop use, and a healthy dose of nostalgia. It’s the perfect mix of homage and satire, making it a must-see for fans of the original film.

In addition to the London run, a UK tour is expected to kick off next year, so if you can’t make it to the West End this holiday season, you might still get a chance to see this delightfully quirky show near you. Tickets for the Arcola Theatre run are on sale now, and given the success at Edinburgh Fringe, you’ll want to act fast.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the film will feature an all-new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. With the franchise pulling in over $6 billion worldwide, there’s no sign of these prehistoric creatures going extinct anytime soon!

So, whether you’re a die-hard fan of the original films or just love a good laugh, Hold On To Your Butts promises a festive season full of hilarity, nostalgia, and dinosaur-sized fun. Make sure to grab your tickets—and maybe your favorite Jurassic Park shirt—because this one is not to be missed!
