Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Reunite in ‘Freakier Friday’ Trailer!
“Oh! I’m like the Crypt Keeper!”
If that line made you laugh, you likely remembered it as one of Jamie Lee Curtis’s unforgettable quotes from the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday. This hilarious remake featured Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna. Tess is a strict single mother, doing her best to raise Anna and her younger brother, Harry.

Unfortunately, Tess and Anna are complete opposites, and they struggle to understand one another. Tess can’t grasp that Anna wants to carve out her own identity and express herself creatively, especially through music and playing in her band.
On the flip side, Anna feels that her mom is far too controlling. She doesn’t understand why Tess is so overbearing and refuses to support Anna’s passions. Anna also thinks Tess’s boyfriend, Ryan, is trying too hard and isn’t thrilled about his attempts to play a fatherly role in her life.
Then, after a surprising meal at a Chinese restaurant, Anna and Tess experience the shock of their lives — they wake up in each other’s bodies.

Nearly twenty years after the release of the first film, Disney announced that a sequel film was in the works.

The film will take viewers on a new adventure that combines the classic body-swap hijinks with a fresh multigenerational twist.

Set to hit theaters nationwide on August 8, 2025, Freakier Friday brings the Coleman family back into the spotlight. Curtis and Lohan are joined by a cast of returning and new characters.
While Tess and Anna’s dynamic remains central to the plot, the new story sees Anna, now an adult, struggling to bond with her teenage daughter, played by Julia Butters.
Meanwhile, the family grows as Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter, portrayed by Sophia Hammons, enters the picture, adding another layer of generational conflict and family chaos.
The sequel picks up after Tess and Anna’s iconic body swap. With Anna now a grown-up, and Tess navigating the challenges of being a stepmother, the two women are forced to confront their differences once more, and perhaps discover just how much they’ve grown.
As the families merge, Tess and Anna will find that the past, indeed, has a funny way of repeating itself.
In a statement, Curtis reflected on her excitement about revisiting the iconic role, saying, “It was one phone call to Bob Iger, and it was done. Fans have been waiting for this for years, and Lindsay and I are thrilled to bring the magic of Freaky Friday back to the big screen.”
For those who fondly remember Freaky Friday’s first release in 2003, the sequel offers a nostalgic return. Curtis’s portrayal of Tess, the overbearing mother who switched bodies with her daughter Anna (played by Lohan), was one of the highlights of the film.
But it isn’t just the mother-daughter duo who will steal the show. The returning cast includes Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Anna’s teenage love interest, and Mark Harmon as Ryan, Tess’s partner.
Fans will also see the return of Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson as Anna’s bandmates from Pink Slip, and Rosalind Chao and Lucille Soong reprise their roles as Pei-Pei and her mother, the owners of the magical Chinese restaurant that kickstarted the whole body-swap debacle.
While the original film focused on Anna’s teenage rebellion, Freakier Friday (2025) digs deeper into how family dynamics evolve as children grow up, and new relationships are formed.
With the return of old favorites and the addition of new faces, Freakier Friday has the potential to be a hit for both longtime fans and a new generation of moviegoers. With a trailer that promises all the heart and hilarity one could expect from a Freaky Friday sequel, the upcoming release is sure to capture the spirit of the first film while pushing the story into exciting new territory.
