Recently, some guests shared an anecdote about “drama” that occurred when they were staying at the Drury Plaza Hotel in a brief stop through town, encouraging a debate where many wondered if, for these prices and this hotel experience, one might as well pay for a Disney hotel.

Here’s what happened.

Bus Drama at Drury Hotel Has Guests Reconsidering Their Future Choices

A guest detailed how they had chosen to stay at the Drury Plaza Hotel; the family had planned for a two-night stay with one park day during Presidents’ Day Weekend. Important to note is that there was one wheelchair user in the family. They paid $400 a night, which the OP noted “was a lot for a neighbor hotel,” but they liked the amenities, particularly the bus service.

As the OP shared, “We love Drury hotels, their breakfast and dinner have food that my picky eaters will eat which helps a lot while traveling and the neuro-spicy members for the family like the familiarity of staying at the same chain.”

However, the trouble started when the bus did not provide the service it was purported to.

The guest explained,

We rode the bus twice and both times had an issue. It was a 3rd party bus. We have a wheelchair in our party and called ahead like the instructions said to reserve a handicapped spot on the bus.

The driver had no idea how to work the chair lift (or maybe it was broken). My husband had to get on the bus and help the driver figure it out while everyone was waiting to get on. Good thing it wasn’t a wheelchair user riding alone.

It was a rainy day that day, so we went home about 5pm when it started getting too cold for us. Called the bus reserved a wheelchair spot, they said no problem it will be there at 5:45.

Multiple parties waited in the rain for a long time. Getting pretty cold and wet, the bus never showed despite three parties having reserved it. I believe the next bus was scheduled at 6:20, thankfully that one showed up.

It was the same style of bus but a different driver. Same drill with the wheelchair ramp. Either the driver didn’t know how to use it or it was broken.

The guest noted that the staff at the hotel took the issue seriously when she shared the issue, but also questioned whether it was worth staying at the hotel again.

In the comments, other Disney resort hotel guests were shocked to hear of these prices and flat-out refused to pay $400 for the Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando located in the Disney Springs area of Disney World. Others even explained that “for that rate just stay a Disney property and save a headache with transportation.”

Another guest agreed “Dang…….$400 a night and you could have stayed a moderate resort and been in the bubble. Or a value, same benefit and pocketed some cash.”

As fans would know, staying at a Walt Disney World hotel gives guests certain perks that are otherwise unavailable if one chooses to stay off-property.

Guests at any Disney resort hotel enjoy early theme park entry, and guests of Disney Deluxe Resort Hotels (think like Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, or Disney’s Wilderness Lodge) or any Disney Deluxe Villa Resort (like the villas at Disney’s Beach Club Resort) can also enjoy extended evening theme park hours.

In addition, per the Disney World website“Certain benefits are also available to Guests of Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria Orlando.”
