Today is a celebration of one of the beloved snacks that is enjoyed by people across the United States and beyond. Popcorn, in all its salty and buttery goodness, is a staple for enjoying while watching movies, but also at Walt Disney World!

Known for its amazing eats and magical treats, for many, a Walt Disney World vacation is not complete without those freshly popped kernels. Today, more than any other day, is the perfect day to enjoy the savory snack while you enjoy all the sights and sounds of parks like Magic Kingdom.

Observed on January 19, this annual event recognizes the importance of popcorn in our culture and invites everyone to indulge in their favorite popcorn treats.

Popcorn has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. It is believed to have been first cultivated in Mexico and later spread to North America. Native American tribes were known to have popped corn kernels and used popcorn in various ceremonies and rituals. The popularity of popcorn grew in the United States during the 19th century, particularly with the invention of the popcorn machine by Charles Cretor.

Many theaters offer popcorn as a staple snack option, making it synonymous with the movie-watching experience. Theatres like Marcus Theatre, AMC Theatre, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema are known for their tasty popcorn offerings.

In addition to being a tasty treat, popcorn is also a healthy snack option. It is a whole grain and a good source of fiber when air-popped or prepared with minimal added butter and salt, popcorn can be a guilt-free snack choice.
