Celebrate National Mint Julep Day with This Refreshing Disney Festival Favorite

May 30 is officially National Mint Julep Day, and while the classic Southern cocktail is often tied to derby hats and horse races, Disney fans know it also has a special place in theme park history.

Since 1966, mint juleps have been a cool and colorful tradition at Disneyland Park, thanks to the charming Mint Julep Bar tucked away in New Orleans Square. Guests can enjoy the signature non-alcoholic mint julep, bright green, sweet, and refreshing—often alongside a bag of warm Mickey-shaped beignets (AKA the dream snack combo).

Fast forward to today, and the mint julep has become a staple at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, especially during special events and seasonal festivals. One of the standout venues for creative sips is EPCOT’s International Flower & Garden Festival, where guests can literally drink in the flavors of spring while exploring beautiful topiaries, outdoor kitchens, and vibrant gardens from around the world.

One fan-favorite from festivals past? The Green Tea Berry Mint Julep is a light, fruity, herbaceous twist on the traditional julep that skips the bourbon in favor of green tea, fresh berries, and a hint of lemon. Served over ice and garnished with mint and more berries, it’s a refreshing, Instagram-worthy drink that captures the essence of EPCOT’s springtime vibes.

Although it’s no longer sold in the parks, we’re thrilled to share an exclusive, Disney-inspired recipe straight from the vault so you can recreate it at home. This mint julep twist is perfect for the season, whether you’re throwing a garden party, planning a Disney movie night, or just looking for a cool drink to sip on the porch.

What makes this drink extra special is the homemade mint syrup, which you can prepare ahead of time and keep in your fridge for up to two weeks. Pro tip: Make a double batch, because once you taste it, you’ll want to pour it into everything, iced tea, lemonade, mocktails, and even over fruit salad.

The Green Tea Berry Mint Julep is non-alcoholic, so it’s great for all ages, and it’s super customizable. Swap in different berries based on the season, or try it with hibiscus tea for a floral twist. However you make it, one thing’s for sure, it’s a delicious way to bring a little Disney magic home.

So here’s to minty moments, garden-fresh flavors, and sipping something special in honor of a beloved Disney tradition. Cheers, and happy Mint Julep Day!
